Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 18, 2012 6:22 pm I've never had an under-mount sink or basin as I've always assumed that the crevice formed between the top of the sink/basin and the underneath of the bench top would be difficult to clean. Can those with experience please comment either way, as I do love the look. Thanks. Re: Under-mount basin 2Jan 18, 2012 6:30 pm Hi, We have undermount sinks and basins in our new home. They are so much easier to clean than basins sitting on top. I love the look of them too, so cleanlined. It is so easy to clean the kitchen bench and be able to wipe directly into the sink. Re: Under-mount basin 4Feb 05, 2012 9:49 pm The look is unreal I like them but until u have to replace them Under-mount basin 7Jul 05, 2012 1:25 am Another question... A friend stated to me today that she would never have an undermount sink because although they look great, mould eventually accumulates in the silicon around the join. Does anyone have a comment on this? Thanks. Re: Under-mount basin 8Jul 06, 2012 9:49 am I doubt the silicon would get mouldy as they all use anti mould silicon now. I would imagine it would be easy to replace it if there was ever a problem. There is not a groove that gathers dirt as it is all smooth. I just wipe mine over with a scrubber for stainless steel from time to time. With your gorgeous modern home the undermount would look amazing. Re: Under-mount basin 9Jul 06, 2012 9:56 am Mould is what is had me worried as well but i guess given its only silicon it wouldnt be hard to redo every 12 months or so. I guess it all depends on how well your kitchen guy seals the gap. I am looking forward to being able to simply wipe the bench off straight into the sink Re: Under-mount basin 11Jul 06, 2012 3:19 pm My parents have just got one put in their new kitchen. Looks fantastic and yes there is a slight groove where it joins the stone benches, but if you wipe it down often enough, and maybe when it starts to get grubby you could use a toothbrush to scrub...shouldn't be a problem The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Under-mount basin 12Jul 09, 2012 7:35 am If it is installed correctly and the correct silicon used you shouldnt have any problems. Also the stone guys cut the CS to almost the exact outline of the sink (so very small lip, not like some I've seen) and glued the sink (I felt they went OTT on that score), so I don't expect any problems for the long term.
