Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 10, 2012 11:30 am We bought a house last July as a fixer-upper to either build into a great family home or to renovate and sell. The house was one built in the 70's, being in QLD it was a 3 bedroom house that had been raised up off the ground. The previous owners had raised it further and built in underneath so it is a 2 bedroom home downstairs and a 3 bedroom upstairs We recently put in some internal stairs which has made this into a 5 bedroom home, though we will be reducing this to a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home as we go. The laundry is currently downstairs in the kitchenette that was made for the downstairs granny flat. We will be moving the kitchen down here later this year and then turning the upstairs kitchen into a 4th bedroom upstairs This however leaves us with a bit of a dilemma. Where to put the laundry. Our initial idea is to combine the downstairs bathroom, which consists of a toilet basin and shower, into a laundry/bathroom combo but I am worried about how this will look. Though the downstairs bathroom will be more of a guest bathroom/powder room as the plan is to make the house as living downstairs and sleeping upstairs. The current configuration of the bathroom downstairs is in the attached image. This would make the laundry sink/basin the bathroom sink/basin Plan 2 The other option we have thought about was to remove the large basin, push the shower further along toward the basin, and put a small basin in there. We would then extend the cupboard that is behind the shower (and accessed from the hallway) and put the washing machine and dryer in there, either with basin, or a small one, as we don't think they are that important anymore. Plan 2 would give us a seperate laundry so I tend to lean towards this plan. Just looking for some feedback on your thoughts on this and whether you have any other ideas that may work? Cheers Dan Re: Laundry size requirements? 2Jan 17, 2012 3:35 pm I would definately look at making the cupboard bigger in this case - the problem with having a laundry inside a bathroom in a house this size is accessing the laundry when someone is using the bathroom, or keeping the laundry area tidy if you have guests around. I would try not to lose too much space in the bathroom though. In terms of layout, to save space you could definately use a smaller vanity. Another layout option could be to put a pedastal or small vanity opposite the door, with a shower next to it (shower in the top right corner), and put the toilet on the wall to the right of the entry. This way you can make the room smaller while still being able to easiy access the basin without having to squeeze past the shower cubicle.
