IXL Heat Lamps?

Well just had a look, one switch for the lights one for the fan, so does both. It does have what sounds like an internal fan come on when the light have been on for a while.

Dont use the fan - found that we havent had to.

Yep, that's the thermal switch kicking the exhaust fan in the cool down the lights....so yours being only what about 18 months old?....have the same safety features as the new ones.

When you say you haven't needed to how do you get the moist air out of the bathroom/ensuite, I hope it's not accumulating on your ceiling. It's probably a good habit to get into to exhaust the moist air out of the room.

But one cancelles out the other, and you are left with what you started with.

Well thats my opinion...doesnt stop him from walking by and switching it on though :wink:

He doesn't need to peek in the shower, I walk around naked all the time!! Umm :oops:

I mean from bathroom to laundry if something needs ironing, if phone rings, etc...much to the disgust of 11 year old DS.

LOL Paula, you’re a prime candidate for getting some of these installed. Would you like me to discuss this with DH?

I don’t know why more people don’t get them installed, for anyone with kids, or in fact if you have guests staying just makes life a little easier for the home owner and the longer term protection of your home.

Steam sensors, when they detect steam they turn the fans on until the steam is gone.

When you think about it, once the shower is turned off the steam pretty much is gone within a matter of seconds. Basically once you’ve stepped out of the shower most if not all the steam will be gone, the fan will turn off and in your case you’re just left with the heat lamps on.

I think IXL were somewhat slow off the mark with creating sealable vents on there units, where other manufacturers have had them for some time. I’m sure if you specified one of the sealable vent IXL models then the impact on the 5 star rating would be minimal.

It’s the seal; this is why you don’t see gimble down lights being used in 5-star rated homes because of the air gap around the lamp and the use of a draftstopper with standard exhaust fans. Each house is individually rated and depending on the orientation and location determines what other methods are used to obtain the appropriate rating.

4 lamp IXL Ecotastic (4 x 375 W lamps) with central light (for when you don't want the heat lamps) has the sealable vent was about $200 at Bunnies plus $110 for installation.

There are cheaper (cost) HPM, Nelson, etc but most people I asked - even those that did not have a vested interest - recommended IXL.
