Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 08, 2011 6:56 am Hi there - I am looking to make our bathrooms look newer. They are around 11 yrs old and we want to make v simple changes and don't have a big budget at all. We simply want to upgrade our cabinets with the sinks and double taps to a newer modern finish. Have rimless mirrors and glass shower. Question is : Would it be cheaper to just remove existing sink and tap and install a modern one which uses a mixer? Would it need a plumber to come & work out the hot cold pipes? As the vanity set is stuck to the tiles/wall would it damage it while removal? Out existing showers have hot/cold taps which we need changed to mixers , have a glass shower. Would we need to remove the entire shower? I've noticed new showers have tiles at the bottom with drainage but we have plastic as its part of the shower unit. I can post a pic of the bathrooms. It looks simple but we think it will give a new life to the entire bathroom Appreciate your help. Thanks. Re: Simple changes to Bathrooms reqd: advise please!! 2Dec 09, 2011 1:49 am A licenced plumber is required for pretty much all plumbing works. For the work that is involved in what you are talking about I would seek advice from your plumber because I am fairly certain to change your hot and cold taps in the shower to a mixer you will need to remove alot of the existing wall. As for your vanity once the plumber has disconected the plumbing you should be able to remove the vanity without damaging the tiles, remember to cut any silicone between the tiles and vanity, remove screws holding in the vanity and it should be easy enough to remove. Remember to measure the gap you hsve from the old vanity and try to get one the same size or a bit big as you will then make life easier for yourself and it will look far better also take note of which side the waste pipe is so your cupboards are on that side and draws if any on the other. When removing shower base remember you will start to open Pandora's box so be prepared for some unexpected obstacles. The key to any project is take time getting the prep work done right and the rest will fall into place with the finishing product turning out beautifully. Hope I have been of some assistance.
