Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 07, 2011 7:34 am Okay so i didn't think about this carefully enough at time we designed the house but going through on a site visit yesterday it was all too clear we need some privacy screening for the bathroom windows. In both our ensuite and main bathroom we have regular glass. In the display home there were plantation shutters and they looked lovely but I'm wondering what is really the best option here? Where would they rank in cost? For example if it's actually cheaper to install new frosted glass than get plantation shutters I think this would be the way to go And longevity? Would a film on the glass only last a very short time and have to be redone? here are some pics the ensuite http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yRGCXHXcPSg/Tt3Fd0C9PQI/AAAAAAAAAYc/p8TbydpOd0I/s1600/_DSC0667.JPG the bathroom http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G4t8_vZM3-E/Tt3GxlyJzTI/AAAAAAAAAYo/26z9HO24LEs/s1600/_DSC0668.JPG Re: Bathroom windows - best option for privacy 2Dec 07, 2011 11:17 am At this stage I would go for the film, otherwise obscured glass, to maximise the light coming into the bathroom. We have had reflective film on some windows for five years with no sign of deterioration so I would have thought the other films would be similar. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Bathroom windows - best option for privacy 3Dec 07, 2011 11:58 am glass film is good, don't get reflective though, they are see through at night. one thing you have to worry about with glass film is that with light on at night inside the bathroom, people from outside may still see your overall figure. i have clear glass in bathroom facing main street, i use glass film from bunnings, then venetian blind. with venetian blind as a 2nd layer you can still allow natural light to come in during the day. Re: Bathroom windows - best option for privacy 4Dec 07, 2011 5:59 pm I voted for 'change windows to obscure glass" - always surprises me that bathroom, toilet windows are clear glass - In SA is standard to have obscure glass, almost all new and old houses do this. (Our standard specs included this.) Re: Bathroom windows - best option for privacy 5Dec 07, 2011 7:27 pm Yes Obscure glass is the way to go, and it looks great too. I was astonished to see just how public your private spaces are, that should never have got though planning, let lone the design phase. We have 2 types of Obscure glass in our renno, the frosted type and a kind of slumped glass that looks good too. I will try and take some pics of it soon. Re: Bathroom windows - best option for privacy 6Dec 10, 2011 2:09 pm I am going to use the frosted sticker thingys for our front door and side lights. Not sure how it would go in a bathroom with the steam. I would just replace the glass.
