Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 29, 2011 6:22 pm I have just bought a home which is a little dated. I cringe everytime I walk into the bathroom. (Heritage style is definitely not me) Not able to renovate it at this stage but I would like to modernise it a little... get rid of the lace curtains, perhaps some paint, a new vanity, change the taps, add some modern fittings etc. I am not particularly artistic or creative. Has anyone any ideas? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Bathroom Blues! 3Nov 29, 2011 7:10 pm I have to agree...yikes. While d@n might say that some people would kill for that leadlight... I think I would be driven to smash it and kill whoever put it in with the shards left lol. What town do you live in Robbie, I am in melbourne an know where you can get a lot of the stuff that reece sell for a fraction of the retail rip off price. Next best is Grays online, but check with ebay 1st as its often cheaper there to get tapware etc. We are nearing the fitoff stage and will be posting loads of pics soon, most of our stuff was bought from auction and the outlets, we even bought all our tapware from the uk, only mugs pay retail. Re: Bathroom Blues! 4Nov 30, 2011 9:24 am If you can replace the vanity and overhead mirror cabinet that would help, maybe paint the trim on the window white or more neutral colour, if it's easy can you take off the top row of tiles with the design and add a row that is more modern otherwise tile paint? The way things are placed in the view of the picture look a bit jumbled (mirror cabinet, vanity, stainglasss window, towel rail), is overall space and issue? Re: Bathroom Blues! 5Nov 30, 2011 3:59 pm It's the wood isn't it?? Get a nice white vanity with mixer - get rid of the shaving mirror and put a flat mirror there, lose the lace curtains and the red taps and it should look 100% better. Re: Bathroom Blues! 6Jun 07, 2012 9:57 pm This is a poor copy of a victorian bathroom, no wonder you cringe! You're lucky the bath is white. Yes, replace the vanity, towel rail- (which is rustic, not victorian), ditch the mirror, curtains (what were they thinking!!). Also change the taps.... Repaint the cream walls and around the leadlight window. . . . What is on the near wall, by the way? Re: Bathroom Blues! 7Jun 15, 2012 3:00 am I think this is a kinda cute bathroom, but I can see how this style is not for everyone. It seems like there's a lot going on in this picture - perhaps go for minimal and remove a lot of elements? If you're going for a more modern look, I think you should try to integrate more metal into the design. This can go from adding chrome or stainless fixtures to adding new bath accessories. Painting with netural colors such as black or white can also give it a different look (right now, I'm getting a brown, homey vibe from it). I think you can work around the wood, as long as the other elements work. If you have a bit more of a budget, maybe you can replace the tile floors for stone, and the lace shades. And maybe the window, it makes me think of is "Beauty and the Beast". Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6035 Hi Geoff Install Puddle Flange prior to any screed. Puddle flange needs to be flush with the surface so you may need to grind away the surface to achieve this.
