Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 09, 2011 1:00 pm I went to Di Lorenzo to do our tile appointment, I think I had the most useless inexperienced person there. I was told with the tile I selected we would only be charged for the price difference in the tile cost... all of a sudden appears in my quote costs for larger size, underlay etc. Basically we are looking at about 3K per bathroom extra (3 bathrooms) And then 10K extra for the main floor. The tile is very nice and has a wow factor but I don't think the wow is worth 19.5K. Can anyone share with me a pic of their bathroom that has wow with out the crazy costs... So far with our build we have been pretty aware of costs of things. but this is over the top. its highway robbery what they want to charge us. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 2Nov 09, 2011 7:56 pm One of the main reasons we decided against building with Wisdom was due to inflated costs of tiles from Dilorenzo, we were aware about alll the extra charges and estimated at least 16k in extra cost. Prior to us deciding to build, we were going to renovate we were quoted around $100sqm fully layed on a screed bed for 600x600 polished porcelain. The sales guy at Wisdom offered us the option of doing them after handover, maybe you should investigate doing it yourself Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 3Nov 12, 2011 8:02 pm I hear you Cass, ours ended up being 19.5k extra too!
urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard supply 4Nov 12, 2011 9:04 pm Doesn't seem to matter who you buy tiles from / build with, if you choose a large format tile you will normally be charged higher costs (both actual purchase as well as laying costs). I got a quote back for ONE wall that was $7k for our main ensuite. I couldn't justify it so ended up going back and picking a tile that I love just as much that didn't cost meant extra. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 6Nov 12, 2011 9:21 pm I will post some pics up tomorrow. We are thinking of keeping with the main floor tile of a 9k upgrade and also keeping the downstairs bathroom the same so an extra 3k for that bathroom. As for the two bathrooms upstairs, we are thinking of cutting back and doing them in the builders range. It will be a bit contrast from downstairs, but i need to save some $$$$. We are thinking of a 200x200 floor in a dark brown, with a 200x400 white laid horizontally, with a feature in the shower. Basic but sensible and should be easy to maintain. What do you think? Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 7Nov 12, 2011 9:53 pm I think i paid about $47 per m2 for 160m2 of honed limestone plus labor to lay it. That is 4 bathrooms floor to ceiling, and isn't an upgrade fee... It was the actual tiles from rms marble in Brunswick. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 10Nov 16, 2011 10:29 pm Hi Cass, Were you looking at Wisdom's tiles inclusions for the $19.5K upgrade ? is that tiles to ceiling for 4 walls? The new promo they have, they include 2 walls(tiles to ceiling), so we only need to pay extra for the other 2 walls. I'm not sure how much mine will be, will choose this Saturday, hopefully will find Giselle... Did you choose polished porcelains for main floor (green range)? The new promo has included the polished porc tiles, we just need to pay the glue (about $600) plus extra labor $37/m2. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 11Nov 16, 2011 10:41 pm oh Cass, btw you can get credit for tiles & carpet from Wisdom... A friend of mine did herself, she paid $7K for the polished porcelain & $7K for the labour (42sq home). The labourer is from Vietnam and very good at his job. Just in case you need someone to lay the tiles.. We are saving about ~$15k from the amount dilorenzo quoted. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 13Dec 06, 2011 3:48 pm you can delete floor covering from your contract. 1 very interesting fact you will find is that your bare concrete floor may not be as leveled as they should be. i deleted my floor covering and questioned my SS about concrete floor not being leveled enough during hand over inspection, I was frankly told by my SS that because they are not required to do floor covering, all concrete job is done to the minimum requirement of the building guideline, i.e. a few mm off everywhere. with few mm off evyerwhere in the house, it is going to need cement and sand for 600 x 600 tiles, adhesive itself just won't give you that mirror finish. so add another 35pm2 on top of the tiling cost. Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 14Dec 06, 2011 4:02 pm All 600x600 tiles should be laid on a screed bed for a perfect finish, our builder insists that if the slab is done witha laser level that glueing is OK, but every tiler we have spoken to has said to get the best finish and to reduce the risk of cracking they should be embedded on a screed bed. You can get a tiler to lay this way for around $55-$60sqm in total, add $40 for tiles(not form Dilorenzo ) fully laid for $100sqm Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 15Dec 07, 2011 8:35 am gogo65 You can get a tiler to lay this way for around $55-$60sqm in total, add $40 for tiles(not form Dilorenzo ) fully laid for $100sqm Polished porcelain tiles can be bought for <$20qm from many places in Sydney. Hi Lot 927, I too am building but havent done our tiles selection yet. You have scared me a little bit....... Ive been to Di Lorenzo a few times to esimate the cost of our tiling extras and Wh told me they dont add on anything extra from what Di Lorenzo tell you. They mentioned we get the green allowance which gives you polished 600x600 tiles but would have to pay an extra $37 for labour and it also includes the small 1.5mm grout. The bathrooms you get two floor to ceiling walls done and to upgrade bathroom tiles it ranges from $24.50-$37sqm. My house is 36sq and i certainly havent allowed 19.5k..... What was your original included package $22sqm or the new $35sqm?? Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 18Dec 12, 2011 10:56 pm Hi Hills Our package was the original $25sqm and the yellow dot range... the old package. I have managed to cut the quote down by 9K but just changing the tiles, keeping with a decent tile and in the end we are actually happier with our new choice - colours are on my blog. I have changed to the 3mm grout for the main floor, plus cutting the price of the tile down to $51sqm instead of the $76. Which has saved about 5K. What house are you building with Wisdom? Except for this part and a few admin hurdles we are so far going well. Our SS is really good and on the ball and so far has exceed our expectations. The workmen are keeping the site clean which is good. I noticed on small problem with the fame and by the afternoon it was rectified. I did not have to call back to remind it was done on my first call. So that is pretty good too. Your house price is probably alot cheaper than mine so it all works out. Was the 19.5k including carpet upgrade? We are building the Man 36. We initially chose the Maj 35 but we changed due to it not having a display home yet as we weren’t 100% sure what the floor plan would actually look like. We are about to start our plans stage as our land does not reg for a while yet and due to this weather may be even longer grrrr. So far C and J in sales have been brilliant; they answer every question you ask. Hopefully the build goes smoothly. Hills111 Re: urrrgh help Di Lorenzo Quote was 19.5K above standard su 20Dec 13, 2011 11:16 am yes, their admin is shocking..... As for the Majestic, now that we have the frame up and we are able to walk through it we are really happy with the space provided. We swapped the alfresco and back living areas around which works really well. Upstairs has tonnes of space in each room and downstairs the only change I would make if I was able to was to have put our fireplace in a different position. And the kitchen area seems to be very big and the dining room we would be able to fit easily a 10-12 seater table. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed.
