Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 24, 2011 9:55 pm Hello, We are building soon and we are trying to work out the upstairs bathroom which will eventually be shared by 2 boys (ATM 2 and 4 years old). We are planning to put in a double basin vanity although space is only 1200mm so a bit tight on the bench space... I am looking at a simple 1200mm cabinet with 3 doors, pic below [url]http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/products/2322169#/url] So.....is there any reason why i shouldn't put in a mirrored shaving cabinet? (Apart from the nuisance of fingerprints). Are they considered old fashioned? Thanks, appreciate your opinions. Re: Mirrored shaving cabinets - any reason not to have them? 2Oct 25, 2011 9:50 am IMO shaving cabinets are great for small bathrooms that will be used my lots of people. If you have a small vanity space with 2 basins you will lose a lot of the space under the vanity. The cabinet will be great for that. Probably, but we are installing three in our two bathrooms and ensuite when we build as they are very practical. I see all these good looking bathrooms with just mirrors on the walls above the vanities but when people need to get something they have to bend down and rummage through a lot of stuff in the vanity just to get it unless they have drawers of course. The other thing we are doing is recessing them in the wall the depth of the stud ( 90mm ) so only basically the mirrored door plus about 20mm sticks out from the wall. Very smick if done right. I'm happy with that solution. I too think the storage would be great, i was just concerned about how closed in it might make the room feel with the cabinet jutting out from the wall. Just have to teach the boys how to clean off the fingerprints! Re: Mirrored shaving cabinets - any reason not to have them? 6Nov 01, 2011 7:29 pm I love the storage that mirrored shaving cabinets can provide... especially because the vanity cupboards always seem so pokey and awkward to get things in/out of with the basin plumbing in the way yadda yadda yadda. I can't wait to renovate a bathroom and I will most certainly be putting them in (and had planned to recess them into the wall cavity also). It might not look ideal (and most things we do these days seem to revolve around 'the look' ) but I wonder if there is a type that have some kind of frame around it (timber or other??) so that the finger prints would mostly be on the frame and not the mirror?? Anyway.... like I said, probably not the look you had in mind... but could be worth looking into for two boys at the helm of the bathroom HHCIB Re: Mirrored shaving cabinets - any reason not to have them? 7Nov 01, 2011 7:51 pm We put one in our ensuite.
