We went with horizontal and we love it. Re: The great tile debate 6Oct 04, 2011 12:50 am It really depends on which look you like yourself, but if you want if you want to go with the masses, I would say that about 95% of my clients have theirs laid horizontally. That's probably also my preference, as I prefer a visually lengthened bathroom rather than a visually heightened one. One thing that is sometimes the decider - always bear in mind where the cuts will be and try to have as little cut tiles as possible with the tiles lining up with everything in the bathroom ie. if you are laying them horizontally try to have the top of your bath hob at say 600AFL, vanity top at 900, bottom of mirror at 1200, top of mirror and top of shower tiling at 2100 (all just examples). Whereas laying them vertically you would need to look at a different height of the shower tiling, either 1800 or 2400... unless you want a half cut tile at the top or bottom which would then change the heights of your bath hob, vanity top etc again. You also might want to decide whether you are doing 300mm high skirting tiling in any areas, because if you want 300mm skirting and vertically laid tiles there will be a lot of cut tiles, which will cost you more in labour. Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable. The large tile on the left was used in my main bathroom renovation 1 year ago.
