Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 07, 2011 11:45 pm Guys Post handover, I would like to convert the existing bathroom ceiling light to a heater light. Just wondering whether this would be a straightforward switchover or the wiring would be different from the ones used for normal ceiling lights. I spoke with this guy from Bunnings and he reckons it is just a matter of replacing the existing ceiling light with the heater light and the exhaust vent will be left on the roof. Comments please. regards Re: Converting bathroom lights to heater lights 2Sep 08, 2011 12:06 am In my current rental, someone has installed a triangular box to fit in heater lights, disconnected the original light wiring and rewired it to power the heater light triangle. Not sure how that helps you, but I'd suggest if heater lights would plug in they wouldn't have gone to the effort. Personally, I'd want seperate lights anyway. Whenever our light blew we had to rely on the heaters for light while the housemates saved their pennies for a new lightbulb. It is very annoying. Too hot to bare in summer, in winter it was too uneven. Too hot underneath them. Ineffective and cold in the rest of the room. They sucked a lot of power as well. Re: Converting bathroom lights to heater lights 3Sep 08, 2011 3:40 pm thanks meatbag. yeah, i know it does consume a lot of power. I have seen these heater lights which have 2 switches to control them: one for heater and another one for light. so i am assuming if i can, then i might have to replace the existing switch for ceiling light with these 2 switches to control the heater lights Re: Converting bathroom lights to heater lights 4Sep 08, 2011 3:46 pm As far as I know ours were just a straight swap over...no need to change the wires over (I dont think!) Re: Converting bathroom lights to heater lights 5Sep 09, 2011 6:00 pm it wont be a straight switch over and you just cant change the switch and all we will be OK. A standard light will have 1 switch wire running to it, where as the 3in1 with 4 globes requires 4 switch wire. This means running more cables to it. How hard that is to do that is very difficult to tell over the internet. Also not knowing how many other lights are on the circuit, you may require it to be run on a new circuit and seperate circuit breaker. Re: Converting bathroom lights to heater lights 6Sep 09, 2011 6:45 pm Thanks ravenhard. i am planning to get the 2 globe heater lights they sell at bunnings. I will check with the sparkies doing my electricals and see what they have to say about it. start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 19595 2 9485 If I hire a contractor to convert a window to a sliding door will I need to show them Council approval paperwork?
