Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 15, 2011 2:09 pm We have never had good lighting at the vanity, so I don't know how to do it well. The ensuite vanity mirror will be about 900mm long. The main bathroom mirror I am hoping will be approx 1.7 metres long. What can I do? ideas? inspirations? what do you have? Vanity mirror lighting 3Aug 15, 2011 2:44 pm Definately go with a specialty lighting choice, as downlights placed above the basins simply don't work. Learnt this by experience. I am putting one of these above mirror in front of every basin. They are fluoros and are a great light for shaving and make-up (so I'm told!) http://www.beaconshop.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&sku=190391&category_id=124&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 Building NBG Buckingham 320E Eastern Suburbs Melbourne Knockdown & rebuild Build startup 28th October 2010 http://buckingham320e-the4ofus.blogspot.com/ Re: Vanity mirror lighting 4Aug 15, 2011 2:50 pm Ohhh am liking both the lights!!!
portas1971 we are going with a bit of a grey/stainless theme so yours would look great in our bathroom. What do I do with the 1.7m one? Two lights? The basin is going to be at one end then the rest will be benchtop. We're having one light centred in the middle of the mirror as they don't make them long enough to cover our entire mirror (ours was available in 3 sizes, so went the biggest one), I figured this will give enough light. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Vanity mirror lighting 6Aug 15, 2011 5:00 pm Hi steph, I would go with ESBs suggestion of one light and I have it for you! The light I originally suggested is available in a 1073mm width also. Maybe that will suffice? It is a 21w fluoro, therefore a bit more light. http://www.beaconshop.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&sku=190392&category_id=124&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 See how you go. It should look good. Our current vanity is illuminated by halogen lights, it works ok, we just wanted to do something prettier. Re: Vanity mirror lighting 8Aug 15, 2011 5:35 pm Good idea - must get onto my builder and ask them to put one in - I think its a great idea as it gives you more of a task lighting effect. The light on the ceiling is more for general lighting. Suburbia is where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them. Re: Vanity mirror lighting 9Aug 15, 2011 6:12 pm Ohhh thanks portas, I have a feeling now that the light store I went to the other day had something similar but she wasn't sure how big the light came. Not sure about the basin being on one side now if I have a light in the middle that won't extend all the way along...
