Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 11, 2011 10:32 am Hi Everyone Currently renovating our bedroom and ensuite and have come apon a problem that i have no solution for Our builder has just put in our vanity and sent me an email yesterday saying "the vanity does have a gap underneath the kick plate which is normal for bathrooms with fall to the waste trap, it is best to have this to ensure that the underneath of the vanity remains dry" I really dislike the gap look, it looks unfinished. Photo below. Any suggestions/solutions or advice as to how i can solve this? My builder has also said that the bottom of vanities does not get sealed because there needs to be room for them to breath, is this correct? Re: Gap under vanity kick plate 8Aug 11, 2011 10:34 pm Is that your waste/drain on the right of the vanity? I would be concerned about how much water would pool against your vanity kicker... Perhaps thats why he has left the gap BUT its not a reasonable excuse. If he was to plane the kicker, you may than have issues down the track with the water pooling, causing the kicker to swell Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! What do you think about redoing the base to make it finish back under the vanity. Or remove it together and have chrome legs on it?? Although you may see drainage pipes this way. We are having a fully framed shower screen and our shower floor does step down a little. Re: Gap under vanity kick plate 12Aug 12, 2011 11:52 am You could wall hang a vanity of that size. But you need to reinforce the wall strength - preferably behind the tiling. Also you may still see your pipework unless it was recessed in the wall - but this is normally not done for standalone vanities. So to wall hang now may be a costly exercise. Our vanities (pretty much the same sorts as yours) in the minor ensuites are all around a 10mm off the floors - seriously we don't even notice them, although the option is there to caulk the gap with a waterproof sealer should we want to.
