Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 30, 2011 9:29 pm Soon we will be having our ensuite shower base repaired due to inadequate waterproofing. At this stage we expect all the floor tiles will have to be ripped up (pretty much a given, we think although it is yet to be 100% determined that it is the waterproofing causing our problem). Anyway.... currently we don't actually have a moulded shower base (If that's what they are called??), it is a square corner shower with just the floor tiling angled down to the drain, with a framed shower screen around it (actually looking at photos, you might call it a 'semi frameless screen' - not sure). Thing is, we have only been here roughly 9 months, and already the shower screen/frame is skanky with mould and 'yuk' around the seals/silicone (at the base and up the door) and the metal part of the frame hard to keep shiny/clean. (Two (two walls are tiled, screen is two corner panels). So.... we don't want to put that screen back on - or a new one like it because the same thing will only happen again. We'd like to try and eliminate as much silicone/rubber as possible to avoid mould build up and general unsightliness. We'd love a plain 'walk in' shower with one frameless panel but unfortunately we don't think the layout of our bathroom allows for it. So, we need to find something that suits a corner shower (tile base) and needs to have a door on it (unless anyone can think of a way that it won't need a door). Is it possible to have just glass panels (frameless) without silicone or rubber on the bottom?? Or not - because then water will leak out under the panels?? Or, does it mean we might need to build a tiled hob (I think that is what they are called) to step over - or lower the base to step down into - and then we could possibly have just glass panels without frames or silicone?? (Or is it possible to have frameless screen with our current set up??) I really want to keep the shower base tiled like the floor if possible, but if having a moulded/acrylic shower base will open up alternatives for the screen, then I'd consider it. Any other options or any websites anyone could point me to that might show various options? Thanks folks.
