Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 21, 2011 7:22 am I have received a few hundred variance from builder to install a jolley edge to my bathroom tiling. Not having come across this before, from initial investigation it is a plastic half round edging that neatens up an edge of our bath hob, shower neiche and some floor to ceiling wall edges (a hob or return wall framing the vanity, unsure of correct way to describe these). On one hand it seems like an easy out for the tiler so they do not have as tough a job getting the edges smooth. My question is 'Does it look good, or does it cheapen the look of the finished job? Depending on your bathroom colour will depend on what colour trim you will use. My bathroom is charcoal and white, and on the edges where the white meets white we put a white trim, and where the charcoal meets the white we put a stainless steel trim. Having said that, ours was not a rounded edge as you describe, but a right angle edge. It looks a lot better than having tile meet tile, looks cleaner, neat and well finished. 2fk Re: To Jolley or not? 3Jul 22, 2011 3:47 pm I guess it comes down to personal preference. I prefer properly mitred tile edges, which look cleaner IMO. Every bathroom that I have tiled I've used the edging and it looked fine. However, it is an easy out for a DIYer as I am not a tiler. Never knew it was called 'jolley' edge before! Re: To Jolley or not? 4Nov 04, 2011 5:06 pm Just an update, when my builder refers to 'jolley edging' it is a tiled mitre, and for them is an upgrade from ussing butt joins. Even though they stuffed up the shower neiche and it has one butt join along the bottom tile that we hate looking at. I would never have a plastic or metal edge. 71monaro, for that one butt join along the bottom tile, why not get it fixed/replaced. We ended up paying a $750 variation for ss metal square edging and it looks amazing. That's was for floor up ceiling tiling in ensuite, bathroom with niches, glass block window in my shower and lots of external corners. Also a few spots in laundry.
