Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 20, 2011 12:17 pm Just hoping to get an opinon about my ensuite... whenever we run the vanity tap for more than a couple of seconds, we get a very noticeable sewerage smell. It doesn't happen when the taps in the shower are on, or when the toilet is flushed, only the vanity. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the smell is coming from either the floor waste or the drain in the vanity. The house is only 9 months old and are on a slab if that makes any difference. We didn't mention it to the builder at our 6 month inspection as it wasn't noticeable at that point, so it's really only come up in the last three months. Doesn't happen in the main bathroom at all, just the ensuite. Any suggestions?? Nic. What is this smell in my ensuite??? 2Jul 20, 2011 1:33 pm Hi Nic We had the same problem in a house we built about 8 years ago. In the 2nd bathroom, which wasn't used much, a sewerage smell was present when we went in after a few days of non use. We traced it to no 'P' trap in the bath drain so there was no water to stop the smell from the pipes coming in. May or may not be the cause in your case, but worth investigating. Cheers Re: Any plumbers here? What is this smell in my ensuite??? 3Jul 20, 2011 3:30 pm Your waste trap (not in Vic) may be empty, pour some water into the floor drain. What is this smell in my ensuite??? 4Jul 23, 2011 1:23 am HI there u could have a venting problem, also a small blockage in the sewer sucking out the fw which will smell, but if u use it all the time the basin will go to the fw which has a gully (trap) so its allways has water in it Fitzy Re: Any plumbers here? What is this smell in my ensuite??? 5Jul 23, 2011 8:06 am as fitzy has said above it could be a small blockage in the floor waste which is sucking the gully trap dry. Buy a bottle of Mo-Flow from either a plumbing store or i reckon bunnings MAY sell it. Put half a bottle of this down the floor waste (don't spill this stuff on anything) and run the basin for 5mins and see if this clears it up. I again say DON'T SPILL THIS STUFF IT WILL EAT AT YOUR TILES/BASIN if i have understood your dimensions correctly my suggestions include using the smallest toilet and wall hung handbasin eg Caroma Urbane with in wall cistern, small wall… 1 6584 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 4559 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 8160 |
