Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: LARGE glass panel for walk in shower 22Jul 04, 2011 7:03 pm alt0160 Oh hi! Haha, we want to do something very similar. Our quote was around 2k also. We are chasing 1910mm wide by 2000mm high (there was two hundred dollars difference between 10mm and 12mm glass). The biggest issue is getting it into the house. I was thinking about going to the ceiling, then I remembered the height of our door frames. Ive sent about 8 enquiries, had 3 responses. 2 said that it could be done, and one said seriously doubted that anyone who said they would do it has adequate knowledge of saftey. Our builder will do a semi framed one that is 1500 mm wide, by 2000mm high which is too small for what we are trying to do. They did suggest putting in a 410mm wall to make up the difference :/What state are you in? Maybe we can share our findings? We are building with V too. As above is what i'm thinking of doing in our ensuite, sml part wall & then a glass panel because our shower is a double but with 1 shower head. Did they quote you a price for this Be interesting what it is through them, but i wont a glass panel not semi frameless. cheers Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! We have two niches and I think slumped glass would look awesome if we were able to hang it in there. Any views?? Depending on the actual size of your niches (I gather you're talking about ones 1000mm-ish tall, not 400mm tall as in a shower niche) it could look pretty good. The only thing I'd caution is that sometimes (generally ??) slumped glass is a "bold" product, that is maybe why it works so well in large sheets. For your niches I'd probably be looking at a more "delicate" (less deep / pronounced) design for the glass ?? Or maybe tinted mirror ?? For fixing, say your niche "depth" was 90mm, I'd sit the glass / mirror flat into the niche, and then retain it with a 45mm * 45mm "beading" of some sort, painted seamlessly with the walls, so the glass would just appear to sit there with no fixing. In my mind anyhow !!! Cheers, P_D . Cheers, P_D Thanks for your ideas P_D - the niches are 900mm wide and 1500 high so plenty of room - I agree the glass shouldn't be too heavy - I think it would look awesome though with the downlights above reflecting the shapes and colours in the glass. I found Alan @ allthingsglass.com.au to be really helpful Re: LARGE glass panel for walk in shower 29Jul 05, 2011 12:31 pm I have a single glass sheet shower screen. Mine is about 2500 high by 750 wide 10 mm toughened. Not sure how much it cost as it was part of the building contract. Supplier was Stegbar. No channel - glass is fitted to the wall and rests on clear plastic supports on the bottom, which when silcined in are not visible. At first I though of sealing to the ceiling, but there's a 5 mm gap and all is well. My screen is only 750 mm wide since the bathroom width is only 1500 mm! Obviously a better bathroom woudl be 2400 mm wide and then the screen coudl be 1500 mm or so. Looks great.
