Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 05, 2011 11:42 pm I wouldnt have thought that this would be a major problem although have had no help at all from local plumbing suppliers. Here is the issue: I have just put in an oversized shower base with a "his" and "hers" shower head on opposite sides. I have put in one flick mixer that supplies water to both heads. What I was hoping for was to be able to purchase one shower head that had an on/off valve so that it can be just turned on and off as required. It is too late now anyway but I dont want two sets of taps so that the taps are constantly adjusted as each person tries to get the water temp to a satisfactory level. Not only is this a pain in the butt, but also wastes water!! The so called "experts" at a well known company told me that they could get me a shower head like this so I purchased and fitted a good quality flick mixer unit off them. After a number of weeks of searching they have told me that there is nothing available and have stung me anothers $300 for another set up that would do the trick. This also had the one flick mixer aswell as a knob that by pulling out or pushing in could turn the supply to the other head off and on. I was about to start to cut into the plaster and swap the units at the weekend before I started tiling, and I just happened to have a look at the finer details on the instructions to read that the clowns had actually only supplied me a standard shower/bath diverter. This would mean that if i were to pull the knob out for the other shower head then mine would stop!!!! Apart from fitting some form of stop tap on the pipe before the rose, does anyone have any other suggestions or know of something that is available in the way of taps similar to the diverter that doesnt cut off the water when the other one is turned on?? Re: 2 shower heads 2Jun 05, 2011 11:50 pm I can't answer your question, but we have two shower heads and we have two separate flick mixers for them. Every shower I've ever seen with two heads has two sets of taps. I understand what you are after, but I'm not sure that it even exists. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick 2 shower heads 4Jun 06, 2011 8:17 am Same as the other posters - we have two overhead rainfall heads with each having their own controllers. One does have a diverter but on that controller is a separate hand held shower. The only say I know of to have the water pressure / temp separate from each other would be to have two hot water systems. We quite often have both showers on at the same time and yes one does affect the other slightly but pretty much we can gave them both on the same temp together. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: 2 shower heads 5Jun 06, 2011 9:48 am Ta. Water pressure wont be an issue as I have intalled a 135L hot water system solely for use with this shower. Its the change in temp of water from the other shower head being turned off and on that I want to avoid. I got the idea of doing it like this from my local footy club. They have approx 8 shower heads all had their own set of taps. Always after games as each person came in and turned on the taps people were always stepping back and because the water bacame too hot or too cold. This would keep happening till all of the 8 were in use and everyone was happy with the temp. The other problem was the amount of water being wasted as they would all be kept going until the last person was finished. With the u19 and reserves playing first, the seniors would often end up with cold showers. To combat this, when the showers were upgraded they put in one central tap with pre-set temp and each shower head has a stop valve tap between the wall and the rose. I realise that this is a solution to my problem, although the stop tap is not the best looking and although it is ok for a sporting club, I dont think the wife will accept it in her new ensuite. Maybe I need to invent something and try and get a gig on The New Inventors. Re: 2 shower heads 6Jun 06, 2011 10:17 am We have two flickmixers and it doesn't really affect the other persons temperature when the other is turned on. I actually prefer to have two seperate ones, because my husband likes his water quite cool, while I like mine quite hot, so it works well to be able to adjust them separate. Re: 2 shower heads 7Jun 07, 2011 9:21 am dbp1078 I wouldnt have thought that this would be a major problem although have had no help at all from local plumbing suppliers. Anything that doesn't get done every day is difficult to get done unfortunately dbp1078 Not only is this a pain in the butt, but also wastes water!! I doubt you'd use much more water this way dbp1078 What I was hoping for was to be able to purchase one shower head that had an on/off valve so that it can be just turned on and off as required You know that this is what a tap does, right? As far as I'm aware no such unit exists. I think you might also find that each shower head must have it own taps to control heat. Something to do with the rules of tempering valves and marking of hot and cold taps. Re: 2 shower heads 8Jun 07, 2011 9:58 pm Really?? I always wondered what purpose taps served. Below is exactly what I was after. http://lifehacker.com/400535/install-a- ... toff-valve I took my laptop into Robert Fergusons plumbing and electrical with this web page and they grabbed me one straight off the shelf. They are called 1/2 inch inline ball valves. Problem solved and I have exactly what I want!!! Re: 2 shower heads 9Jun 08, 2011 9:50 am It was a cheap shot. I just thought it would be easy enough to have a single tap at the base of the shower head to stop flow. Again, I thought you had to have separate taps for each outlet because of building regs. Glad to hear you got what you were looking for. Re: 2 shower heads 10Jun 09, 2011 12:07 am Depends on how fancy you want to get; the Germans have thermostatic mixers, and have shut-off for the showers. Saw quite a few different one on the Hans Grohe site. Our solution to temperature variation was to have a continuous flow gas hot water service with a temperature controller; just dial the temperature in, and you're done. Re: 2 shower heads 11Jun 27, 2011 10:02 pm When you order your shower with two shower-heads does the plumber "automatically" put larger diameter pipes into the bathroom to feed the two showers at once ? As much as Mrs P_D and I like the idea, as the OP said, we're concerned about running out of pressure / flow and temperature. Thanks, P_D . If you want to spend about 9k, then the kohler thermastatic mixer and control pannel would probably do what you want to do (and more) though if you were spending that kind of money, id go the whole kit and kaboodle and get the wall/ceiling jets from the DTV package too.... *drool* (not into the light show and aromatherapy myself) http://au.kohler.com/products/showering-technology.aspx our budget only went as far as the water tile shower head Re: 2 shower heads 13Jun 28, 2011 2:11 pm I'm a bit late too but here goes........ In our old house we had an instant heat hot water service with controllers to set the temp that you want. If you were in the shower and someone elsewhere in the house turned on a hot tap the pressure dropped. If they turned on a cold tap there was no difference in the shower. This was because you only needed to turn on the hot tap in the shower. No fiddling around with mixing hot and cold water to get the right temperature. I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
