They'll tell you what you need to know www.glassbrickcompany.com.au Re: Glass Blocks 3Jun 05, 2011 11:05 pm It really depends on what purpose you are using them for. I have seen quite a few that have been used as external windows in such things as stairwells and have been laid in the courses of bricks so that the wall has a flush finish outside. The most common method is using silicon and one of the spacer systems. "Ezy-lay" is sufficient for smaller windows and is easy to use as it has a vinyl type strip that you lay between the bricks before siliconing. Once you start getting too big you will need to have aluminium or steel strengthening bars. There are a few different brands available, most if which have plastic corner blocks that act as spacers and hold the bars in place. Couple of things to keep in mind: 1. From time to time some of the cheap discount stores have glass bricks for sale anywhere up to a quarter of normal price. These are usually sub standard quality and can be slightly out of square. (Maybe thats why they call them reject shops) This can end up causing more grief than its worth. 2. If you are using silicone make sure it is mould resistant, especially if you are using in the bathroom. 3. Glass brick windows are extremely heavy, for eg. glass weighs approx 2.5kg per mm per sqr m. Make sure your wall and floor can support what you are putting in. Depending on the size, some units can be purchased completed or if its too big a glazier will come around and fit the bricks after the frame is fitted. 4. Another option is polycarb bricks or you can also get bricks that are only 50mm thick which cuts the weight back considerably. As posted previously, you cant go past the Glass Brick Company for product and service. Good luck with it. Those span tables can be pushed a little for a low deck if you dont mind a little flex. Last deck I did, I pushed it a little and it was still rock solid - no noticeable… 6 13735 Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that.
