Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 22, 2011 5:51 pm We are currently in the process of finalising our plans. One of the main things I want is a basin in the toilet so people don't need to go into a different room to wash their hands. The house didn't have this originally so we have added it in but the option our builder has given us is to put a corner sink in there. I'm really not happy with that and would like something that looks a little more "finished". This is the layout of the room, it's approximately 1500x1300 (measuring off of our plan so don't have exact measurements). http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee448/sarahshouse/wc.jpg I am considering asking to have a sliding door put on the room but I'm not sure if that will work. Any opinions or suggestions? Re: Room Layout 2May 22, 2011 5:55 pm If you can somehow squeeze a tiny little bit more space, I'd move the toilet along (same wall it's on now, but closer to the right hand wall) and run a vanity the length of the wall opposite the door. The only issue is the door would open on to someone's knees if they were on the toilet... so a tiny bit more space would be ideal... or a sliding door. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Room Layout 3May 22, 2011 6:34 pm I have used a sliding door which can be OK but my preference would be to have the door hinged to open into the passage rather than into the toilet. This would give you more room for a larger basin. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Room Layout 4May 22, 2011 6:41 pm I hope you don't mind but I had a rough play with your loo plan. i'm not sure where the outside wall of the room is. ( outside of the house. Assuming one wall is on an external wall that is) Could you put the toilet on the same wall as the door? this would mean you could put a slightly bigger basin, still in the corner but not facing on a diagonal out from the corner. rather flat against the wall opposite the doorway. OR toilet on the wall to the left facing towards the door wall. basically in the bottom lefthand corner of the plan. You could have a basin next to the toilet. again a small one but it wouldn't have to be on an angle. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Obviously both suggestions depend on where the outside walls are. what's nextdoor etc etc I've kept the bowl of the basin the same size as it was in the corner one, just drawn a rectangle around it. Re: Room Layout 5May 22, 2011 7:31 pm I don't mind at all, I am open to any/all ideas. It shares walls with the bathroom and a bedroom. http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee448/sarahshouse/bathroom.jpg I don't mind if the basin is small, I would just prefer a vanity instead of this: http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee448/sarahshouse/basin.jpg Re: Room Layout 6May 22, 2011 7:50 pm Mum has a tiny powder room in her retirement house. it has a little cupboard type vanity. it still has 2 little cupboards. enough to hold spare loo paper, soap, and air freshner. It would be a little longer than your one is and perhaps the doorway is slightly narrower. Same set up location for the loo as yours but withe basin in the position i've drawn on my 2 versions. It doesn;t appear to be as square as the room you have from memory. Re: Room Layout 7May 22, 2011 8:04 pm Some examples. A google for narrow vanity cupboards gave me these web pages. Mums isn't one of the ones on these pages. But they are certainly around. I'm guessing her's was a sink top and the retirement house builders cabinetmaker made the cupboard below rather than being and all in one unit. But it gives you an idea of sizing. http://www.renovationboys.com.au/shopping-cart.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=118 http://www.whitebathroom.com.au/narrow-vanities%281441623%29.htm Re: Room Layout 8May 27, 2011 7:48 am Thank you so much for your help, I think we'll see if we can do the fourth option. I have measured our plan and it looks like it can fit with room on all three sides of the toilet. Although after measuring I think there isn't enough space around our ensuite toilet. I assume that will be the next battle... Hello! We have a very large open plan living room and wanted to get layout options, and furnishing ideas for this space.
