Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 18, 2011 1:33 pm Hoping someone might know if there's a "standard" height for the surround around an inset bath. We are wanting to do the surround in a feature mosaic tile, so it will really be the focus of the bathroom. Our builder thought 600mm was a little high, (too hard to get in and out of) but less seems a bit insignificant?! Any advice? (the "lip" of the bath will be around 50mm above tile) Bath is 1800x800 Qubi Inset Bath Tub Re: Bath inset height - advice please 2May 18, 2011 4:56 pm It doesn't indicate the actual height of the bath on the plans I have in front of me but it looks like its around 450-500mm. In regards to that height 600mm would be very high. Can I ask what is between the tile and the "lip" as you say? 50mm is a lot of empty space. Re: Bath inset height - advice please 3May 18, 2011 5:04 pm Ours is 560mm.... and it doesn't seem overly high, in fact I prefer it like this as opposed to the low bath at my previous house. Not sure what bath ours is, but I know we paid extra for a deeper and longer one. Our bath lip also sits around 60mm higher than the tiles. There's no gap, the bath sort of comes down the side to meet the tiles (if that makes sense). I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Bath inset height - advice please 5May 18, 2011 10:46 pm Many Perth builders have the top of the bath hob at 400, however if you have a spa the standard is 600. Anywhere in between is acceptable, and many people alter it to suit their wall tile sizes so that they line up with the bath hob and vanity top without having a horrible cut tile in the wrong place. Re: Bath inset height - advice please 6May 20, 2011 11:59 am Thanks everyone for your feedback. Our tile height is 300mm, so I'm thinking a 600mm hob height might be best (and is what hubby is keen on - though he is significantly taller than me!) We do have little critters, but I think they could still get in and out ok. chrisandkate, not sure if i described it correctly, but the "lip"of the bath is just the top of the bath that sits above the hob. It will be surrounded by the mosaics. Next issue is whether our whole bathroom design is getting swallowed up by the bath! stay tuned for that post... Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
