Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 09, 2011 5:56 pm I would like to avoid 600 x 600 tiles on both floor and walls and am considering 300 x 300 and/or 300x 600 tiles instead. Has anyone used these tile dimensions? And if so did you use the same dimension on both floor and walls? Also, if anyone is happy to share photos of their bathrooms/toilets/laundries I would love to see them. Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 2May 09, 2011 6:00 pm We have 500 x 500 floor tiles throughout most the house, but have 300 x 300 wall tiles in the bathroom, and also the shower bases. Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 4May 09, 2011 6:58 pm We have 300 x 600 on both walls and floors. The only thing they did which they didn't consult us about, was the used 300x300 in the showers. It doesn't look bad though and the falls are perfect. The photos don't really show them well as the wall tiles are all white Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 5May 09, 2011 9:31 pm Thanks guys. Rizzo, what colour are your floor tiles? Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 8May 10, 2011 12:47 pm Just thought I'd add, our ensuite is tiny, and was unsure how they would look in a small space, but they look amazing. The powder room ones were done long ways as it's next to the bathroom, and they run across the bathroom, but the powder room runs parallel to it, so they match the way they run in the bathroom. (does that make sense?) Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 9May 10, 2011 3:04 pm The most important thing is the drainage. What type of drainage are you incorporating in the shower? We always recommned no larger than 330x330 to get a fall to a single point drain. If you are using a slot drain across the room you will not have a problem. Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 10May 11, 2011 1:13 pm 300x300 floor tiles and 300x600 wall tiles are the most common dimensions used in bathrooms at the moment. The advantage of these sizes is that you are able to match the grout lines up with the floor and the wall. But if you want this look you must choose rectified edges as these tend to be cut almost perfectly to 300x300 or 300x600. If you go for a cushioned or soft edge tile they dont always measure up at exactly 300mm. Eg, they may measure at 303mm or 304mm. Therefore when matching up a 303mm cushioned edge wall tile and a 301mm floor tile you will loose the matching grout lines over a distance. Sorry for the long explaination. I have done a few bathrooms with these tiles and they look fantastic. And the bigger the tile the less grout to clean. Do most people lay the wall tiles vertically to match up the grout lines with the floor? Re: Floor and wall tile sizes 300 x 300 and 300 x 600 13Jun 18, 2011 12:10 pm blueblueblue - you would think the tiler would know to line the grout lines up. Don't assume they are that smart! We did 300x300 on the floor and 300x600 on the walls, vertically, assuming that that tiler would match the grout lines up! He didn't!! arrgghh when I complained to the SS he had the owner of the tiling company come out, and although they agreed he could have and should have lined up the grout lines because the job was 'flawless' they wouldn't pull them up and do them again. So make sure you specify that you want the grout lines to match up!!
