If the waste is near the door in a small bathroom, maybe 20-25mm (dont forget tiles and glue are 8-10mm). Big room, waste 4m away,could be 40mm. Also depends on the height of your floor coverings. Tell/show the tiler the floor coverings, tell him you want it pretty flush, and he can work it out. It will always be a bit proud.
