Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 23Apr 29, 2011 1:06 pm There is only one way I can see to do it without cramping it and making it almost unusable.... but it will involve compromises. It will have to be a more open room. There is simply not enough space to compartmentalise all the items. Get rid of the little walls around the toilet, etc. They are going to make the room seem cramped and are making things more difficult to position. And it will be almost impossible for more than one person to be in there at a time.... not ideal for the kids bathroom. From what I can see there's really only 3 options to make it work. 1. Increase the space 2. Go for a traditional inset bath 3. Open the entire room with no "compartments" This is how it can work with number 3 applied. Similar to this below... but put the shower between the bath and the vanity and have a glass partition between the vanity and the shower. It will mean the shower will be open to the bath and make it a "wet area". And get rid of the walls around the toilet. You could hinge the door the other way to create a bit more privacy for the toilet so no-one can walk in on someone on the loo.... or you could just buy a privacy lock. With this way (remember the shower won't be where it is below), there would be an entire wall free between the door and the bath for towel racks, you could even put in a chair to sit on while the kids have a bath! Plus, when you walk in the door, you walk into open space, not into a vanity or a toilet or a wall. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j132/MEV09/bathroom.png Here is a pic of what I mean by a "wet area" for the bath and the shower. Just a glass partition to protect the vanity. In yours it could be a freestanding bath though. Obvioulsy in your case, the toilet would be further along from the vanity and the door to the room is in a different position, but this gives you an idea of what I mean. Terrence Malick Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 24Apr 29, 2011 1:18 pm Good thinking Jo! (Although I personally hate the idea of no shower screen on both sides - can't stand it when the kids splash water now - I would be hopeless in a wet room scenario!) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 25Apr 29, 2011 1:21 pm Kyton, sometimes the brain does actually function! Mapcalla, I just did this quickly, bit messy! Something like this..... the line would be a glass partition. And it would still give lots of room if you had to get around the bath to bathe littlies. Just a thought If you want a walk in shower with no glass what about putting the shower wall in front of the window with openings at each end to allow light into the room and the bath where the shower is in the picture? The toilet (with a half wall?) and vanity stay where they are. That way you walk into the room and look directly at the bath with the vanity on your left and the shower wall in front of you on which you could put something nice to look at. Thanks for all of your input....will take all into consideration! I am going to play around with the plan again to see if I can "create" more room width wise to the bathroom. We don't have any kids but can see your points regarding if we did!.... we are planning to stay in this house until the "end"...hehe so creating the house for our needs not for resale etc etc.... Keep ideas coming and I will put up piccies if I am able to create more space..... oh what fun this is... (I am smiling though!) Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 29Apr 29, 2011 2:54 pm Mapcalla - this is only the beginning! It took me one year to get our design right then find a builder took another 6mths then another 15mths before we turned the first sod on the ground LOL. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 30Apr 29, 2011 3:53 pm I like this, and will be cheaper than extending the house etc just hinge the door the other way so that when you walk in you dont see the loo. you see the towel rail and some nice art etc Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 31Apr 29, 2011 4:36 pm I don't think any of the 4 plans work well. This is what I came up with but it would mean having a half wall between the toilet and the bath and the window would need to be higher than a normal window to allow light into the whole bathroom so that the half wall doesn't block out any light. http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac70/Kayles71/bathroom.jpg Just my two cents worth. Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 32Apr 29, 2011 6:38 pm Okay.... was able to pitch a bit of space (don't tell hubby!).... so here is another plan - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.us Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 33Apr 29, 2011 6:47 pm But you still have exactly the same problems as before. Walking into the vanity, nib walls serving no purpose but to cramp things up. That is actually more awkward than some of the earlier plans. The reality is, you do not have enough space for all four areas to be completely seperate from each other. It is that simple. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. It is that simple. gosh... how big of room do I need to have. ... it is 4.35m x 2.5m which is quite a bit larger than "normal", well nearly double with what we are in now with a bath, shower and vanity - minus the toilet, but still.... I know I want the bath/spa separate with leg room to walk around to clean (the spa is 1800L 890w)..... I am not really worried about the 1/2 wall... doesn't bother me one way or the other. Will keep on working at it... hopefully will find something that works..... with this size as can't take anymore from anywhere.... Which bathroom layout do you like? 35Apr 29, 2011 7:06 pm We had a bathroom in one of our rentals that the vanity was like your set up Mapcalla. It just blocked the room and stopped the flow. From my perspective keeping all the pc items on that far wall helps with symmetry and clean lines. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 36Apr 29, 2011 7:09 pm I am going to steal from Sarah Beeny here..... use some masking tape and do the layout of the room on the floor to scale. Make the items out of boxes (again to scale) so you can see not only the floor space they take up, but also the height. You'll get a different perspective on things. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 37Apr 29, 2011 9:48 pm Why don't you have the toilet in the bottom left corner, the door in the top right corner (hinged to open to the centre of the room providing some privacy). Then the vanity in the middle of the bottom walll, the shower longways along the bottom wall in the right corner and the bath longways in the top right corner. leaves room for a towel rail (heated of course along the centre top wall. LOL... will try and see if it will work in the bathroom layout..... Re: Which bathroom layout do you like? 40Apr 30, 2011 5:00 pm Just another thought. We had the exact same problem with walking through the door straight into the side of the vanity. We just moved the doorframe over by 1.5 bricks (about 50cm) so that it's not hard up against the side of the wall. The vanity is about 50cm deep so it means that you wall in along side the vanity and you don't have to walk around it. The door just angles back a bit further when you open it. Worked out well for us, I hope you can understand what I mean! Our owner-builder journey - viewtopic.php?f=38&t=45187 Possibly both depending on the sizing.
