Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 21, 2011 7:39 pm Hi, I just bought a new place that has a modern laundry with a laundry cupboard and a laundry tub built in (looks a bit like a kitchen sink sitting flush in a kitchen benchtop and cupboard). The cupboard has 2 sections. One section contains the tub while the other section contains spare benchtop. If I open up the laundry cupboard under the tub I can see the drain pipe leading diagonally down into the next section of the cupboard (through a hole in the cupboard internal wall). If I open the doors of the next section I can see the drain pipe continue diagonally down into the floor. Just before the drain pipe from the laundry tub connects to the floor there is another pipe that is vertical and connects with the drain pipe. The vertiical pipe is open. I am thinking it is a sewage breather pipe as there are some slightly unpleasant smells coming from the pipe. Is it legal to have an open pipe in the laundry cupboard? About 1.5 metres and in the opposite corner to the laundry cupboard is a gyprock facade that covers the sewage pipes. Should the pipe in the cupboard be extended to connect to this sewage facade? Sounds like major work that the builder stuffed up when building the new house. Any comments on the above would be appreciated.... Re: Possible sewage breather pipe in laundry cupboard 2Apr 22, 2011 5:24 pm Not really certain but the pipe sounds like a pipe to take the washing machine waste. There certainly shouldn't be a breather pipe in a cupboard. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Possible sewage breather pipe in laundry cupboard 3Apr 23, 2011 8:43 am Thanks for your reply. You could be right as there is a hole on one edge of the basin (about 5cm in diameter where the washing machine waste water hose should be connected to it) but there is no pipe connected to it from underneath. Looks like I will have to cut a hole into the cupboard right next to where the waching machine is and connect the taps (they are inside the cupboard) and the washing machine waste water hose. Hi I bought an old cupboard that is in desperate need of some TLC. I was seeking some advice as to the best product to use to give it an oil but also bring it to life a… 0 3436 yes it is possible but watch for noise transmission, decouple as best you can. Maybe wider top and bottom plates with 70mm studs to allow the cabinet to be recessed fully 1 6633 |
