Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 12, 2011 8:33 pm Hi everyone, Does anyone know the difference in cost between a Frameless and Semi Frameless Shower Screen? We have a shower which is 1.8metres long (wall to wall) and our builder has suggested having a 10mm thick frameless shower with a pivot door at the far end. We actually prefer the look of a semi-frameless for this space. The builder hasn't told us the costs yet for either and I was hoping someone could give me a guide to what we should expect to pay? We need to decide tomorrow so any advice tonight would be really appreciated! Thanks Re: Frameless vs Semi-Frameless Shower - Costs? 2Apr 12, 2011 8:39 pm At least 50% more. I got quoted from my builder using Stegbar. Be aware that that is quite a wide shower and depending on your budget I would either recommend fully framed or frameless. These are the most sturdy, having said that, the other deigns will work fine as long as you are aware that they will have some flex. Re: Frameless vs Semi-Frameless Shower - Costs? 5Apr 22, 2011 12:48 am Yes, frameless showers tend to use thicker glass...½ inch glass panels and ⅜ inch doors for maximum stability. Also, they are as the name implies have to frame, just glass panels. No header is needed in most cases. Semi-frameless showers have a framed perimeter around the enclosure, while the door is frameless...no channel at the top, bottom or on the handle side. Both are stabilized by a header and are installed with wall jams and a bottom sill. Here's a perfect example of semi-frameless showers and shows a diagram with a channel, header, and wall jam.
