( tlled hob) it looks great. Re: does anyone know what is mitring to tiling 4Mar 25, 2011 10:48 am We have mitring as we have a corner in the bathroom and a niche in the shower with mitring, too, instead of the strip that coudl be used. Just be careful they do a good job of the cut/filing. Ours is chipped on the niche and anything that is not perfect irritates me. Re: does anyone know what is mitring to tiling 6Mar 25, 2011 7:40 pm It is definitely worth doing mitred tiles in your bathroom and ensuite, no doubt about it. There is nothing worse than having your gorgeous new bathroom and seeing the terracotta colour of the side of the tile on your shower hobs and window sills. Most builders will only charge $100-$200 per room, depending on how many areas you have that need the mitring. (It's also known as jollied tiling). I believe I have some photos at work, if no one else has sent any through by next week I will forward some does anyone know what is mitring to tiling 7Mar 25, 2011 8:02 pm The other cheaper option is to have the corners covered with a metallic piece. We chose to do this instead of mitring - thought that the stainless "lifted" the colours and tied in with the tapware / screen surrounds. Some things are worth waiting for. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: does anyone know what is mitring to tiling 13Mar 26, 2011 8:56 pm Kyton’s metallic strip is very pretty- I think this is owing to the fact that it is so long. If you only had a small tiled corner then I think the metallic strip would break up the tiles too much. I have some photos below. In the first one I have the plastic edge strips around the window rebates and on the bath hob. The window rebates were actually meant to be mitred and the second photo shows this after it had been rectified by the tiler. I wanted to keep the edge strip on the bath hob as it was a colour match for my tiles and because I thought it would be ‘safer’ having a rounded corner getting in and out of the bath etc. I don’t think you should have mitred tiles on any corners you will put pressure on as they might chip seeing as they’re cut to a small point. Also, for anyone considering a light coloured plastic strip- remember that it will fade and yellow over time as all plastics do. The last two photos I took from a display home- if you can afford it, go mitred. Just minimises any injuries from the sharp edges created by mitring. Re: does anyone know what is mitring to tiling 17May 23, 2012 12:01 am CC101 do these rounded plastic strips come in different quality or they are pretty much standard? Did any one had any issues with these rounded strips? we used white plastic strips around the window edges in our kitchen. After 5 years, still looked brilliant, never had a problem (we sold, so don't know how they are going now after 7 years). Tiler also said that if necessary, they are reasonably easy to replace if they start to discolour (he reckons it would take at least 10 years, in direct sunlight). It looks better than butt-jointing the tiles. 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase ....
