Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 14, 2011 6:55 pm Hi Our ensuite floor was being tiled today. When I had a sticky after he had left I noticed he has done the skirting tile as discussed, however has not put any on the walls that will be tiled and not painted). It sort of seems strange that half the room will have the skirting tile yet the other half won't as it will have the wall tiles coming from the floor up. Is this normal or should their be skirting tile all around with the wall tile then coming from above the skirting tile? I also noticed that some of the tiles aren't level (one spot really bad!). Is there a normal tolerance for this that once its grouted you don't notice? The one spot inparticular will need to be fixed as where the 4 corners of the tiles meet there is just shy of 5mm difference between two tiles (one tile corner pushed down to far the other not enough). Would love to have some answers for when he is back tomorrow. Thanks Donna Quick tiling question- need answer asap 2Mar 14, 2011 7:24 pm With the skirting there is no hard and fast rule. Depends what (a) you requested and (b) what is specified in your contract? For eg our ensuite is tiled to the ceiling so no skirting tiles on any of the walls however the adjoining toilet has only a row of the floor tiles as the skirting. What do you prefer to make the feature? Your wall tile or the floor tile as a skirting row? Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Quick tiling question- need answer asap 3Mar 14, 2011 7:40 pm I should say that the walls that only have the skirting tile are on the left (door is in the centre of the ensuite) and the tiled walls are to the right- all related to the shower. The floor tile also runs one tile wide up the shower wall as the feature tile. The rest of the tiles are white (all tiles 30 x 60cm). So I guess you would say the floor tile is the feature of the room (and its stripe up the wall) but I still don't know if the skirting tile should run all the way around. Re: Quick tiling question- need answer asap 4Mar 14, 2011 11:44 pm I'm not sure what you mean about the grout, but if it doesn't look right definitely question it. As mentioned above with your skirting/floor/wall tiles, anything goes, there is no right or wrong. If you are after opinions though, I think it would have a nice flow without the skirting tiles.
