Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 09, 2011 11:42 am Hi everyone, We are designing our 2nd house and i am thinking of doing a light tile for the floor but then when tiling the shower and around the bath using a darker brown colour. I have not seen it in a display home yet and would love to know if anyone here has done it . We are planning on going a natural theme like we did in our first house. The usual scheme is to follow through the same tiles as the rest of the ensuite and then add some sort of feature on shower wall ( Usually one ). Would be interesting to see how your scheme looks. At the moment, I am in a dilemma whether to go for a light color tile for the whole bathroom/ensuite ( wifey likes this ) or go for darker tiles. Comments welcome Thanks Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 3Mar 22, 2011 6:03 pm Hi Bindi, My personal thoughts on that is it might look a bit "top heavy" if that makes sense. I'm guessing if you use two colours you would normally put darker on the floors. Maybe try to google some pics? Raj, I want a light colour for the whole bathroom. You can always add splashes of colour or dark features with towels, vases etc. But then my hubby likes dark too - much more masculine. Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 4Mar 22, 2011 6:55 pm @chuffy, We had our tiles selection over the weekend at Beaumont Tiles. I was all pumped up after convincing my wife about the look with dark tiles. I showed her lots of pics i gathered over months. And finally when we went to Beaumont, we found out that they didnt have the dark tiles I wanted in the size I was looking for. We had been browsing before at Beaumont, but this move to go 'dark' was kinda last minute. So we ended up selecting the lighter tiles and added feature tiles in shower and behind vanity. My selection http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae29 ... /Tiles.jpg Cheers Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 5Mar 23, 2011 12:30 pm Hey raj, That tile you have standing up the light one it looks alot like the tile we were going to use as floor tiles thru the house sort of had a wood pattern thru it. So maybe a dark wood cupboard for the kitchen and the cabinets for the bathroom. We are still wanting the light stone look benches so need some contrast somewhere. The tile looks much better in person than in the picture. We are happy with it. So you done with all your selections yet?? Would love to see your final selections. Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 7Mar 23, 2011 1:25 pm No not yet the builder said not to stress about it we will do it as we go along. Which i am shocked by as when we built with a big builder on our first home we had to have all the selections done b4 contract. We are thinking a sandbank i think colour front doors as we will be having double doors for the entry. Thinking the long handles as well as a lever would look too plain. We were thinking the dark cabinets as well but not too sure never had dark cabinets before. We had cream cabinets in our last house with a dark bench top in the kitchen and a brown bench in the bathrooms. But we also had the timber floor look laminate too. Which i would never do again. Apparently the builder is waiting on the stamped plans from the council then i guess it will be all good to go for the bank. The bank has been out and valued the block of land so they must be getting their contracts on the go. I am guessing some work will be done on the block in April hopefully in time for my bday. We signed our contract in December and the only thing left was Tiles selection which the builder said we will do it closer to land settlement date so I can get the latest tiles. Thats all done now last weekend. Bindi77 But we also had the timber floor look laminate too. Which i would never do again. We have gone for timber laminate . Our first home, so dont know yet what it will be like. Did you have a bad experience with timber flooring? Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 10Mar 23, 2011 7:54 pm Well it started peeling soon after we moved in... so not sure if it wasnt laid properly or what. Also dropping knives on it wasnt good but if we were to stay we probably would have put tiles in to replace it. Just dont like it on the floor. Tiles are better than Vinyl but then depends on what ur budget is. I am assuming that will be a different kind of timber laminate. i know because of my mates has that sort on this floor at the place he is renting. everytime you walk on it, it feels like you can just peel it off. It hasnt got that hard feel. The ones which we have selected are different. I dont really think they can ever peel. I checked in the shops, talked with a couple of people here on the forum who have done this, got a really great feedback. anyway, I will just try my luck. lets see how it goes. Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 12Mar 24, 2011 9:38 am Love your colour selections Raj, they look great ) I think you are both talking about different flooring? Vinyl and laminate are different. Laminate wouldn't peel but can obviously scratch. Bindi, looking forward to seeing your selections when you choose! Who are you building with? Agreed with the Vinyl/Laminate debate. Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 14Mar 24, 2011 8:21 pm chuffy we are building with stephen James homes he is a small builder here in bendigo. We first built with macquarie homes and werent that excited about them in the end. This time we are doing it the right way and of course we know what we should have done the first time. Little things like having a laundry cupboard without shelves for the vac and carpet cleaning machine. Our cupboard in the last house had shelves so had to store vac in study robe. Apparently the banks contracts are ready but waiting on the stamped plans from builder whom is waiting for the council for. yes i will post a pic of our selections once we have chosen we are thinking of going to visit the kitchen cabinet maker and having a chat about colours finishes etc with them. Got a fair idea what we want its just getting an idea of if it will be workable LOL Contract signed - March 7,2011 Site Cut - May 6, 2011 Pre slab plumbing - 19th May, 2011 Slab - 10th June, 2011 Our thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45044 Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 15Mar 28, 2011 3:29 pm Sounds great! Excellent you've also got more knowledge from being your 2nd build. We are about to embark on our first and it's so daunting. Having owned our own house for a while we have thought of little things like the room for vacuum and brooms in cupboard and lights in the hallway - yes our house here has NO lights in the hallway! Wasn't an issue til we had kids Re: Shower and bath tile ideas 16Apr 10, 2011 8:54 pm OMG chuffy no lights in the hall ... we had lights in the first house and had the 2 way switch which was good. The new builder includes these as well not sure where we will putt them. Also i think he includes 4 telephone points and 3 tv points or other way around LOL We have got some of the suppliers the builder uses so we will have a look and make some decisions from there. Wanting to put those long pull handles on the two front doors apparently the builder had to order them for someone else thru a hardware shop at $170 dollars a pop. Anyone else know a place to get them cheaper?
