Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 21, 2007 11:40 pm Hi all,
We are in the process of doing research for the bathroom products and I was wanting to get opinions on the style of basin. We really like the above counter basins however a friend has above counter and finds that they splash a lot. We are not sure if this is common with above counter basins. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Regards NoviceBuilder Re: Basins - Above Counter or Undermount? 2Dec 22, 2007 6:07 am I have one set in…..and still there seems to be a lot splashing in my bathroom!
It could depend on the user, also I don’t think the above mounts are kid friendly, they are a little to high for them. I think it’s a personal choice thing. I myself wouldn’t have them, only because I like things to be easy cleaned. But that’s not to say I don’t like the look of them, I think they look great. Do your homework, go and look at a few, there are lots of styles out now, maybe some are better than others. They just dont look "blend" with the bench as the traditional basin would look like. Seems more difficult to be cleaned too. I wont have them. Re: Basins - Above Counter or Undermount? 4Dec 22, 2007 12:06 pm i prefer the "traditional" set in basins i think it flows better than having a basin sticking out there in you face Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . They'll immediately date your rennovation. They also take up more space and are more easily damaged. Re: Basins - Above Counter or Undermount? 6Dec 27, 2007 7:58 am The appearance of above counter vs traditonal set-in basins is a personal choice but what about functional issues: as well as being too high for kiddies, it might depend on your own usage: for example if you are short like me and shave your legs by putting one leg in the basin (much less water wastage than staying in the shower) also rinse your hair in the basin, say, after colouring it, the high counter top ones would be difficult to do such things.
Worth thinking of all these mundane uses, as well as the asethetics. Anyway we've had inset, semi-recessed and in our new place we will have the square above counter vessels...It's hard to say that such choices would "date" a renovation. I think that we all choose what suits the room. If the owners taste is for the modern, then usually the above mount or semi-recessed is chosen...because it suits the rest of the room, or for the more traditional, then the inset bowl... Each to their own i say, but choose something that suits your room and your tastes. (And now it seems, your flexibility too.... ) Re: Basins - Above Counter or Undermount? 11Dec 27, 2007 4:20 pm Quote: One leg in the basin at a time……your young then!!!! Well, I'm actually 44! But, yes, enough information about personal basin uses! (just wanted to point out that functionality could be a factor as well as appearance: sorry if the images were too graphic!!)
