Our bathroom has been slowly disintegrating over the past couple of years. Sections of tiles began to arc or bow out from the wall, not very noticeably at first. Some tiles had a vertical crack through the centre, as if they had been under pressure. Most of these sections have now smashed to the floor, some in dry areas some in the shower. The floor tiles have a few cracks through them as well.
The house has timber floors and is about 18-20 years old. We've been here 10 years. I'm thinking the brick piers have sunk a bit and the movement has put pressure on the wall tiles. I've noticed that in a couple of places our floors have gotten slightly springy. But really I have no idea and it could be something else entirely. It's one of those faux federation style bathrooms, tiles halfway up the walls, border tile and clawfoot bath. I'm so ready for a brand new look.
I'd like to know if I'm on the right track before I
a) send OH under the floor to pack the piers.
2) get professional people out
3) start to gut the bathroom.
Thanks for any advice!!!
