I own a 2 bedroom unit in Malvern in Melbourne (a unit, not an apartment, so no problems with access).
It has an old bathroom that I want to renovate.
I’ve gotten 2 quotes from people who will project manage & renovate it. Both of them are around 20K, or 18K for cash price. This includes everything – project managing, new tiles, vanity unit, toilet, window, bath, screen etc. I also got a third estimate from Smarter Bathrooms for “high 20’s”.
Some details:
*The unit is double brick which makes renovations harder and more expensive.
*There is slate looking tiles on the floor and half way up the wall. I am told to strip these is very labour intensive.
*The window will be replaced as part of the renovation. All those who gave me a quote told me that the way the window has been built into the unit means that it will take up to 2 days of labour to remove the window.
*The quotes include putting down lights in the bathroom
*The quote includes not only tiling the floor but floor to ceiling tiling as well
*The bathroom currently doesn’t have a bath, only a large rectangular shower. This is to be replaced with a combined bath/shower.
Forget about the Smarter Bathroom high 20's quote. The other quotes - they seem excessive. Is this truly the going rate, or are people attempting to rip me off?
Side note: i am not very handy, so please don't suggest that I project manage it myself.
