Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 08, 2011 5:46 pm Hi All, We are looking to build the Montclair 270E Streamline (sorry but I can't attach pics - awaiting mod's assistance...) and after reading some of the other threads on the forum, I'm unsure about whether to put doors on the ensuite or not. We have 2 openings to the ensuite. Obviously I'd need to put 2 doors in but they would intrude on the vanity basins as they are just inside each doorway.... Does anyone else have an ensuite layout like this that they have put doors on? If anyone has any suggestions/examples, could you please post? I'm looking for some options and inspiration here Thanks Chubz Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 2Feb 08, 2011 6:18 pm To attach photos you need a photo hosting site like flickr / photobucket. Once you upload there then post the <img> code and the photo will show up. There is another thread currently going asking the same thing. Personally all bathrooms should have doors for me. Could you have cavity sliding doors? Some things are worth waiting for. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 3Feb 08, 2011 6:29 pm Hi, I don't have space for cavity sliding doors I was hoping someone would have the same sort of layout/openings as I amlooking at and could provide some examples as to what they have done.... Thanks Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 4Feb 08, 2011 6:32 pm Refer to the discussion in this thread viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43900 Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 5Feb 08, 2011 7:47 pm Are you able to make changes to the ensuite layout? If so, I suggest having a double vanity along the exterior wall in place of the single vanity on that side, delete the other single vanity and move the shower to the Gallery wall. This would leave you with a wide opening in the middle of the bedroom wall which you could either leave open, or install double cavity sliding doors. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 6Feb 09, 2011 6:10 am Hi Pinch, Thanks for the reply. I can make changes to the layout, that's not a problem. I'm guessing you know the house we're looking at from what you have suggested? I want to keep the 2 vanities as I have too much crap and take over the bathroom (I will freely admit that) so I want to be able to have my own space and my partner can have his own space (that way he can't yell at me when he can't find things ) Moving the shower to the gallery wall may pose an access problem to the toilet...??? I was thinking of frosted glass doors to both openings that way we can have them closed but still have the "open" feeling.....my only problem is what kind of doors would suit this layout I'm so confused and lost on this..... I just googled the house and found your plan At least, I found the NBG Montclair, couldn't find the 270E Streamline but they all seem to have a similar ensuite setup. Do you have a link to your plan? Frosted glass doors sound great, why don't you have them track mounted on the bedroom wall? You could have the bedroom entry door moved a few centimetres along the gallery wall away from the ensuite which would leave room for the glass doors to slide open to the outside of the ensuite doorways (ie, one toward the gallery and one toward the exterior wall). Does that make sense? You could even have these installed after handover if you wanted, just make sure you have the bedroom entry door moved slightly to allow room for the tracks. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 8Feb 09, 2011 7:29 am Yeah, it's the NBG Montclair - they don't have the streamline listed - I haven't posted any pics yet so lets give it a go and see if this works..... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ OMG, that's an AWESOME idea!!!! I have actually requested the bedroom door be moved towards the front door a bit as when you open it now, it blocks access to the first ensuite doorway I'll have to go back to the display and measure the doorways and the outside wall sections to see if track doors would fit or if we may need to extend the outside walls a bit.....hmmmmmm Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 9Feb 09, 2011 7:40 am Oooooh, it worked!!! This is kid of the idea I had - although I would want the track hidden and maybe a frame around the glass..... This one is gorgeous but would be $$$!!!! Having a look at your plan, it doesn't look as though there will be room to open the doors toward the outside of the bedroom. Hhmmm. Maybe double tracks so you can open both doors into the middle section of wall? You could also change the bedroom entry door to a double entry door like this http://www.corinthian.com.au/Product/De ... &ItemId=25 I'm not sure what it's called, but it's not as wide as a full double door, so the narrow door could open against the ensuite and not block off entry to the ensuite? Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 11Feb 09, 2011 11:45 am It is isn't it - although I have found one that's even nicer... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We originally were going to put in a double door to the bedroom but it's an upgrade and it's not necessary so I'd rather spend the money where it's needed. I'll definitely be moving the bedroom door down so that it's away from the ensuite but I'll have to go to the display home (of the standard version, not the streamline) and measure up the openings and walls. I'm really interested to know how much this addition is going to cost me before I fall in love with the idea too much but I don't think anyone would be able to give me an idea of costs...??? Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 12Feb 10, 2011 12:21 am Ikea has glass and mirror sliders for closets that look pretty cool. I'm in a similar situation but I don't have a bulkhead/door frame/arch thing in the entrance to mine, it's just a hall, so I need to figure a way to hang a door from the ceiling or a rail that works as a cantilever perhaps. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 13Feb 10, 2011 7:56 am Oooooh, I hadn't thought of that - Ikea, of course!!! I'm trying to get a hold of my sales rep atm to see if it's an option we can go with (Ie an easy change) or if it will just throw my costs out... Geez I hate it when people don't reply to emails or phone messages Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Geez I hate it when people don't reply to emails or phone messages As in the house sales rep? This kind of stuff can be done afterwards if you leave provision for it (i.e. a framed area that is typical door way shape and size). And possibly save money in the process. However, if you plan on doing cavity sliders, then yeah, will need to be done during framing stage. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 15Feb 10, 2011 2:01 pm Are you set on the ensuite layout itself? You could mess around with the layout of it, and only have one door, possibly a sliding door. From the plan it looks like a massive ensuite! (lucky you!). I changed my bathroom and ensuite around a lot from the original plan and it didn't cost me anything extra. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 16Feb 11, 2011 2:56 pm Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with it as it is... It's HUUUUUUGE!!!!! Considering we currently live in a 12sq house, this house will be 3X bigger so the ensuite will be about as big as my current bedroom!!!! Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 17Feb 11, 2011 3:20 pm Hi Chubz, Does you shower has the option of opening either side ? If not then you could move the shower to the right side and have double vanity on the left side. You can then have a central opening for the ensuite which is up to you to have a door or not. This way you don't have to move the door for the bedroom (might be useful if you plan to have a wall mounted tv in front of the bed ....) like the way the other 3 bedrooms are spacious too. 26/2 - Sales 23/3 - Colours 31/3 - Tender 14/4 - Contract 7/5 - Taps 12/6 - Site start 15/6 - Slab 27/6 - Frame 1/8 - Lockup/Fixing 29/9 - PCI 25/10 - Handover Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 18Feb 11, 2011 3:26 pm Just a thought but are you planning to use bedroom 2? Have you tried flushing the toilet in the ensuite to see what sort of noise impact it has on that bedroom. It might be worth asking if they would allow you to flush the toilet in the display home to check it out. I did this in one home I visited where an ensuite toilet shared a common wall with one of the bedrooms and the noise in the bedroom was horrendous. There was no insulation in the internal walls so perhaps if there was it would have made a difference. Also, personally I would hate to have an open ensuite. I prefer to have a bit of privacy in the bathroom. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 19Feb 11, 2011 5:58 pm B2 problem is easily rectified by changing BIR in B2 to the opposite wall - either parallel to its present position or running along wall shared with hallway - either would mean wardrobe and contents would serve as noise buffer from the ensuite toilet. 4 x 3.7 is generous minor bedroom size so would still have plenty of options for furniture placement. Re: To Ensuite Door Or Not To Ensuite Door??? 20Feb 11, 2011 6:59 pm Hi All, The shower opens at the top end (not either side) so it's not really moveable. I like the layout, just want to be able to close it off with doors if possible, plus having the single vanities on either side of the room means no more fighting with the other half over mess on the vanity I hadn't actually thought about the flushing toilet noise - great suggestion!!! B2 will more than likely be used as a nursery as I am desperate to start trying for a child soon.... Moving the wardrobe is an excellent suggestion though and would also help with buffering any potential baby crying.... so if my sales rep ever gets back to me (still no return calls or emails ) I will have this changed on the plan!!! It doesn't look like we are in a huge rush now to build either as we may need to hold off to Stage 2 of the land release which I think may not be until next year Watch out!!! I'm a crazy Scots-Woman!!! My door tends to rub against the frame during winter and I'm looking to fix it so it closes smoothly. Looking online on Youtube I'm seeing methods to fix the alignment and… 0 701 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6144 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11838 |
