Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 07, 2011 9:23 am I am wondering if anyone has any problems with tiled shower bases. I understand problems can occur with the grout cracking due to movement/compression in the shower base and water getting in under the tiles. I am wondering if anyone else has had that sort of problem with these 'easy tile' showers. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with this. Many thanks. Re: Leaky shower bases 2Feb 15, 2011 9:44 am Shower bases are the single worst invention in the history of the building trade in my opinion. The main problem I have found with them is that they are never installed correctly, if the specifications and instructions are followed they are fine but most guys dont install them correctly. Tiling over then can make the problems worse. Avoid them at all costs I say. Re: Leaky shower bases 4Feb 16, 2011 10:26 am No base, just tiled floor with a screen dividing area for shower and a drain of grate in the floor. We're getting 2 drains installed in our new bathroom. Like someone said above if installed right no drama but thats like anything but I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
