Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 06, 2011 8:24 pm Hi All We are thinking about renovating our bathrooms if their is anything left in the budget after do our extensions. Keeping everything exactly where it is just changing tiles and cabinet doors and tops. If we pull up the tiles, does the tiler re do the float? Or would we need to get in a plaster. Trying to work out a budget. Allowing $100/mtr for tiles and laying. We are just having plain white tiles. Seen them for $30/mtr which allows $70/mtr for laying. Does this seem realistic? Also if anyone can recommend a tiler please pm me. Thanks Caz Re: Tiling Cost 2Feb 06, 2011 8:55 pm hi, not sure what you mean by "float". Tiler's do the waterproofing, but if you're not changing your shower that may not be necessary. Ask your tiler. I think tilers charge around $45-55 psqm, so you've probably allowed a bit much. $30 for white tiles is average, occasionally you can get cheaper ($20) at clearance centres. If you want to save money, I suggest you get a tiler to do it, but you do the grouting - that is really easy and worth a thought. Sometimes tilers will tile straight over the old tiles, ask them before you pull up. If you choose to pull up they may suggest re-doing the plaster, but that would do that, unless you wanted to save money and so it yourself. Good luck! A thankful person is a happy person. Thanks Caz If you pull the tiles up you may need to clean up the base, check with the tiler it may be wiser to let them remove the tiles as it could get messy and also if the base needs to be completely removed the float will need to be redone, by the looks of your budget you will have enough for the tiler to remove and replace the tiles Telecommunications systems, computer Networks and Security systems.
