Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 06, 2011 1:50 pm Does anyone know what the latest bathroom colour and material trends are ? It seems like dark wood (laminate) and ceasarstone was "in" for a while there. I love the look of it but was wondering if its going to show the age of my bathroom as a naughties bathroom? From what I have seen, it seems that in the newer display homes are using much lighter shades? For those building this year what colours/ materials are you going for? Or Do you have an opinion on the latest bathroom colour/ material trends Ta K PS I know people will say do what you love.........just interested in what others thinks are the latest in colours/ materials Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 2Feb 08, 2011 2:46 pm I'm with you on the dark wood. No expert on the latest trends but here are a few sites I find useful for ideas... http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/bathroom http://trendsideas.com/ListArticles.aspx?topic=9®ion=3 http://houseandgarden.com.au/bathing-beauties.htm Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 3Feb 08, 2011 7:10 pm Thanks Pippi Love some of those bathrooms!! Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 4Feb 08, 2011 8:48 pm What's a naughties bathroom lol. I do have the dark cupboards with white tops but I have seen many all white bathroom vanities or white cupboards with darker stone tops. I like them all. Yes it may date but that could apply to just about anything. Just go with what you like lol Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 5Feb 08, 2011 10:17 pm we built two years ago and I already think my bathroom looks dated. hehe. I think classic white cupboards & bench top, huge white wall tiles and dark contrasting floor tiles (say charcoal) maybe going up one wall or over the bath hob, is a timeless look for a bathroom, and what I'd do next time. Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 6Feb 09, 2011 9:05 am Donuts this is what I ended up doing....2 out of 3 bathrooms are going to be white. The ensuite is going to be more classic looking and is where I will have some fun with colour. My kitchen is all white too. I know its boring, but it may save me some dollars in 5 or so year time. Much easier/ cheaper to change accessories rather than tiles and vanities... Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 7Feb 09, 2011 5:34 pm My local Leader newspaper real estate magazine had an article on bathroom trends. It's pretty ordinary and some of it seems quite out-dated to me but I'll share it anyway. Here's some of what it says... '...several themes for 2011 including neo-classic (modern with a twist of the old) and monochrome (black is back and is now a feature).' 'Minimalism is here to stay... This is probably the most sought-after look when it comes to bathroom design. People are also choosing to vary the materials they use in the bathroom and are introducing softer, more naturally occurring materials and textures such as timbers and Corian.' 'Organic product shapes are also in, with taps, toilets, baths and particularly basins all going organic... Soft natural shapes, emulating objects that occur in nature.' 'Toilets: single flush is out. Dual flush is in...' 'Baths: freestanding acrylic baths are definitely affordable and stylish and are tipped to become the centrepiece of the bathroom. Corner spa baths are well and truly out.' 'Basins: double basins are the way to create a his and hers zone and are best used as a semi-inset or under-counter for extra bench space. Large basins are out, especially in glass.' 'Shower outlets: twin showers are perfect. The giant overhead outlet is ideal for a luxurious soak, with an adjustable rail a great idea to suit all heights.' 'Taps: mixers with free-flowing water are in. Three piece jumper-valve gear is out.' 'Accessories: heated towel rails are in and are a must-have luxury in the bathroom. Ivory is out.' Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 8Feb 09, 2011 5:45 pm Well our main ensuite has nearly all of those things except the monochromatic color scheme LOL. Not at all worried about it dating - only DH and I have to like it. Some things are worth waiting for. Not at all worried about it dating - only DH and I have to like it. Sorry, Kyton, didn't mean to offend. What I meant but didn't express properly was that a lot of it isn't new for 2011. Dual flush toilets aren't exactly news-worthy 'trends'! Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 11Feb 09, 2011 6:44 pm LOL sounds like your local paper was having a slow news day and decided to re-run something from 1995 "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. I admit I think my bathroom is pretty gorgeous so not too worried that my timbergrain laminex is a naughties look. Just curious. Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 16Feb 10, 2011 7:50 am I would have to say stay away from feature tiles and stick to neutral coloured tiles and you'll be ok Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 17Feb 10, 2011 11:22 am Kyton, I love that bathroom. I think everything dates, it's just a matter of how much time. There will always be new materials, colours, styles that will outshine what we did yesterday and today, but I don't care. I plan on staying in this house till my kids grow and by then it may need a bit of renovation anyway and that will be the perfect time to update it. We built our first house in 2004, our ensuite was blue and white with those lovely blue glass feature tiles in a strip over the vanity and a strip down the shower and the main bathroom was brown and cream with the mosaic tiles as a feature. Everyone seemed to have blue lounges then too Our second house was a bit more modern and we stayed well and truly away from blue's and creams lol. This house we have done charcoal and white with no feature tiles just the floor tiles up one wall in the ensuite and over the bath hob in the main bathroom. The cabinets will probably date, but I don't care, I like them This is our ensuite, it is only a small area, so didn't want to overpower it with features so kept it simple. The main bathroom is the same Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 18Feb 10, 2011 11:51 am Nice bathroom Rizzo. That is our main ensuite. DD's ensuite is white with a dark purple floor tile and a strip of purple mosaics; DS 1's is a medium grey floor tile with a larger square mosaic of red, silver and charcoal whilst DS 2's ensuite is an aqua turquoise floor and small turquoise mosaic. (Our first home we built had a blue and yellow kitchen, main bathroom was white with blue and yellow, ensuite was white and blue. Bet you we built the same time you did LOL) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 19Feb 10, 2011 12:01 pm Oh yes, the first house we bought, I decked out the kitchen in blue and yellow sunflowers I was actually looking around our living area the other day and noticed how "brown" everything we have around here is and couldn't help but wonder how long it would take for all this to be out of date. When we bought our blue lounge about 10 years ago, it was the trend. Everyone I know had a blue lounge and they were so in. It didn't take long before everyone was over them. I know browns are more neutral, but it doesn't take much for trends to come and go. (btw, we still have that blue lounge in the kids playroom. It's trashed, but it's great for their little room) Re: Trends in Bathroom colours/ materials 20Feb 10, 2011 3:36 pm My husband wanted to avoid feature tiles to try and keep our bathroom 'timeless'- but I think it will still date...like everything does!
BTW- We also had a blue lounge 10 years ago (Blues and creams were the 'in thing' weren't they!? LOL!) and Rizzo (like you) our new place will have lots of 'browns' everywhere That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 in the stormwater pit or the drain?
