Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 06, 2011 8:17 am Hi, would anyone know if there is any issue with having a mirror as the back wall of a shower niche? I saw it on a website and loved the look, but I'm not sure how practical it would be. Can a mirror be sealed well enough to withstand constant water? Does anyone have this or have an opinion? Thanks. Mirror in Shower Niche 2Feb 06, 2011 9:35 am I am sure it could be done but at a cost. You would have to seal it so very well to stop any water penetration, then you could have issues with the sealant eventually making through the silver backing as time progresses. Some things are worth waiting for. Mirror in Shower Niche 4Feb 06, 2011 10:06 am Wow.. It would look amazing but I agree there would definitely be issues. Re: Mirror in Shower Niche 6Feb 07, 2011 1:44 pm I would have thought it would be just like a glass splashback in a shower, quite common but expensive. I know it is coated with a metal paint on the back but that's the same as a standard paint on a glass splashback in a shower. The sealant would have to be watched for any deterioration but silastic starts to slightly change colour and become cloudy when it's starting to go off. At the first sign of that, have someone come in to pull it all out and re-seal it. The bigger issue for me would be.......do I really want to actually see my body when I'm in the shower.... Re: Mirror in Shower Niche 10Feb 11, 2011 9:05 am eeeeeeewwww. Can you imagine having to look at yourself in all your glory as you get into the shower Lets hope its one of those clothing stores "thinning" mirrors Because after a few kids and added on years, the lumps and bumps dont need to be close up Re: Mirror in Shower Niche 11Feb 13, 2011 9:07 pm I was thinking of also doing this to replace the suction cup mirror i currently have on the wall. The mirror would only be used for when i shave my face, so it would up high.....not a full length mirror @ nicenurse - Can you post the weblink of the site you saw it on?
