Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 06, 2011 8:12 am So we're thinking of having timber bench tops and white cabinets in the kitchen.... Should we match this in the bathrooms? We're after a warm day spa feel for our home so would love to hear and see any suggestions... Don't fall into the trap of asking every man and their dog what to have - you may end up with something down the track that you don't really love. There are two schools of thought here. Some people like to match bathrooms and kitchens plus laundries for a continuous flow through the house. Then there are people like me who can be described as stupid or out there as our 4 bathrooms, two powder rooms, laundry and kitchen are all completely different. We chose to do the bathrooms to suit the occupants of each of the bedrooms, the laundry and kitchen were my decision since they are "my" domain whilst the powder rooms were chosen to be functional due to their location. Have fun making your decisions. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Bathroom and Kitchen matching..... 3Feb 06, 2011 9:43 am For me I would say no they don't have to match. I associate kitchen with food and bathrooms with toilets and cleaning so when I am in my kitchen I don't want to feel like I am in my bathroom lol Our powder room isn't the same but goes with the same flow as the kitchen/living areas just so its not completely random Bathroom and Kitchen matching..... 4Feb 06, 2011 10:11 am Our kitchen, bathrooms & laundry all match.. That is what I mean by going with what you and your family loves. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Bathroom and Kitchen matching..... 6Feb 06, 2011 11:42 am Kyton I like you way of thinking.... I think I would like them to be the same feel/style but not exactally the same. eg timber bench in kitchen and on top of vanities.... mmmm not sure what to do with the bathrooms.... Our bathroom and kitchen benches are both lovely old reclaimed timber and looked beautiful when we bought six years ago; now, however, they're not looking so flash. The bathroom bench has rotted around the edge of the sink because my husband doesn't wipe up the water he splashes when he shaves. And I should never have used Spray and Wipe on the kitchen bench, but I have done and now the varnish has worn off in spots. Could have used a strip and re-seal years ago but we've been busy with other things. I'd love timber benches again - they suit the character of our house - but have decided to reuse the timber in other ways. We're not big enough into maintenance to be trusted with them! Re: Bathroom and Kitchen matching..... 8May 04, 2011 9:55 pm My husband and I are having this discussion now. I want the bathrooms different to the kitch, he wants the same. I have not seen the same before and finding it hard to picture so I'm not sure what we'll do... What about the outside of the window? That's what I'd be worried about. LOVE it though!
