Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 31, 2011 6:31 pm Can you tile over old bathroom floor tiles, or do you need to rip out the entire floor? I am playing devils advocate here......just wondering if I absolutely hate the new tiles, is it an easy fix by getting new ones and tiling right over the top!! Thanks K Re: Tiling over old tiles 2Feb 01, 2011 8:52 am You should pull up the old ones. Easy way to do it is have the tiles laid on cement sheeting, that way you don't have to chip them off a slab or boards and you can easily put more sheeting down and re lay new ones. Re: Tiling over old tiles 3Feb 03, 2011 9:18 am Dont do it. Pull the old ones up. If someone would lay tiles ontop of tiles, you would have a huge step into the bathroom. The slurry mix on top of old tile then the height of new tile would look gastly. Re: Tiling over old tiles 4Feb 03, 2011 8:00 pm If the tiles have been put down well, there is no problem tiling over the old tiles. I have done a few jobs like that lately where the client is happy to glue direct to the old tiles. It saves a lot of time, mess and money. Because remember you will have to re waterproof as well if you rip the old floor up. The only extra height you get with useing glue will be the thickness of the tile. Glue technology has come a long way in the last few years and they have glues that stick to anything Adam Re: Tiling over old tiles 5Feb 09, 2011 9:07 am Thanks for all your responses, And Adam, some great advice Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8091 just pull up the slate. If you go over the top, your tiles would not have an even surface to be glued to. Im no tiler, but i can imagine a couple of things being an issue… 1 349 Levelling compound Ardit is the best but buy a bag of sand and make sand dam to protect your wood floor 2 15258 |
