The cabinet maker who was also making our bathroom and kitchen cabinets assumed we were going a 2pac finsish throughout and we just overlooked the laundry. Probably would not have gone with 2pac had we remembered this was a decision we needed to make but now that it is done we like it because it is so much a better finish than any other option. Wouldn't do stone though. Re: Stone benchtops and 2 pack cabinetry in laundry - overki 22Jan 28, 2011 8:34 pm We too did 2-pak in our laundry (as well as CS bench) - we have the same cabinetry colour throughout our bathrooms and kitchen and just wanted continuation, so never thought to do anything but that - does look nice, but at the end of the day it really is "only a laundry" - I think do what make you happy, what you like, and most importantly... what you can afford.... Re: Stone benchtops and 2 pack cabinetry in laundry - overki 23Jan 29, 2011 10:56 am I agree partly with everyones opinions and understand them - fence sitter I know But I'm going granite for my laundry benches in keeping with my kitchen and bathrooms. Havent yet decided on 2 pack for the laundry or not though. My laundry is going to be a bit "different" to others. Its actually going to be in 2 cupboards opposite one another in the hallway (near the bedrooms and bathrooms). One of the "cupboards" will house the w/machine, sink, and some cup/ds and small bench. This will then be hidden when not in use behind a large sliding frosted glass door. Not 100% sure what my exact plan is for these - will probably go with stone/2pack in keeping with the theme and besides, wont need much of it. As for the opposite cupboard, it will have a bench (granite) with about 4 or 5 pull out laundry baskets (1 per cup'd door). These will look just like a normal kitchen cupboard from the outside though. Then above will have cupboards also. This will not be concealed by a door so I want to make sure it looks really classy in keeping with the rest of the house. So stone is definate. 2 pack - probably. Along with some some nice lighting and fancy ornaments to set the mood..............................the mood for washing that is I need all the mood enhancers I can get Also, this area will be seen by anyone need to use the bathroom. As for stone outdating, never. So long as you dont go over the top with dramatic colours, it will NEVER date and go out of fashion becasue it is THE high end of materials. Always has been, always will be. I always go granite because I love the depth of finish you get - even in the neautral colours. Where there isnt any depth to the colours of man made stones. Each to their own though. Have had ceasar stone - liked it, but LOVE granite. I'm also very biased towards stone. Even if I couldnt afford it, I would skimp on something else (which I have done in the past) to make sure I had my stone benches. Hope its some kind of help. Re: Stone benchtops and 2 pack cabinetry in laundry - overki 24Jan 29, 2011 1:27 pm I don't think stone in the laundry is over the top but at the same time I wouldn't say it was absolutely necessary either. People have made a point about durability but I guess it depends on how you would utilise the space and whether it was an area lots of people would see. I would have liked to have had stone in my laundry but it was too expensive for us (due to our location the price was far higher than the metro areas) In the end I found a laminex colour that worked nicely with our tile choice and figured that if it looked nice then there was no point going to additional expense for an area like that. (If we had an unlimited budget I probably could have looked more closely and found a colour that worked- but I just didn't go there) My husband and I viewed a 'high end property' that had stone in the laundry but we didn't like it- It wasn't the fact that it was stone but rather the colour they had picked. I imagine it was probably quite pricey but the colour they picked made it look 'cheap'- (in our opinion) I think I could have confidently picked a laminex benchtop for that area and made it look 'classier' (or at least in our eyes anyway!) It was built to be sold brand new and has been on the market for some time (9 months or more) with no bites whatsoever. I think you can select a more affordable option and still have it look really nice but if stone is what you really want then go for it! Unfortuantely we don't have an unlimited amount of money so we have had to make decisions that fit within the money we have available. We have just resolved to select things WE LIKE. We have spent more money on the things that were important to us and made compromises with other things. Stone in the laundry didn't make it on our 'important to have' list! Re: Stone benchtops and 2 pack cabinetry in laundry - overki 25Jan 29, 2011 9:05 pm We have caesarstone & vinyl wrap in all our wet areas including the laundry. Our laundry is basically a continuation of our galley style kitchen with a cavity sliding door as a separator so it really needed to be the same materials. We did consider a similar looking laminex for the benchtop but decided to pay the extra for the caesarstone. If you can afford it and you want it, go for it.
