Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 23, 2011 11:54 pm Hi I was just wondering if anyone has done there bathroom without any feature or boarder tiles , and if so i would love to see some pics. We are just going for grey 300 x 300 tiles on floor and white 200 x 300 on wall , the only reason i didnt do a boarder feature is i didnt know how to do it as our bathroom has weird configure and there is a window in the shower , which also hinders how you can do a feature. Thanks in advance Re: No bathroom feature tiles 2Jan 24, 2011 10:43 am Our bathrooms have no feature tiles at all - just white mosaics all round. I have reno'd a few bathrooms with no border tiles. One had the same tile in a different colour for one wall in the shower, so I suppose that was a 'feature tile.' Don't try & shoehorn a feature tile in your bathroom for the sake of it. At least plain white walls will not date & it's easy to add a feature colour with accessories. Re: No bathroom feature tiles 3Jan 24, 2011 10:52 am we have a feature wall in our shower. we also have a strip of different tiles under mirror on vanity, but doing a feature wall of a contrasting or complementary tile can work well too, instead of trying to work out where to fit the strips! Re: No bathroom feature tiles 4Jan 24, 2011 11:54 am We have no feature tiles in our bathroom and ensuite. I fell in love with our wall/floor tiles but couldn't find a feature tile I really loved. There were a few I liked but my husband was concerned that they might date too quickly. At one point we considered having no feature tiles and just having tiles floor to ceiling but after having it priced up we decided we would prefer to spend the money elsewhere. The tiles we picked had smaller mosaic tiles and I considered using these but couldn't decide where to put them so that they "worked nicely". The kids bathroom would have been fairly straightforward but our ensuite wasn't as easy. I couldn't decide whether to just put them above vanities or a strip in the shower or above the bath and spa and after struggling with where to put them I decided it would be easier to not have them at all. Unfortuantely my bathroom isn't complete yet- so I don't have pics! Re: No bathroom feature tiles 5Jan 24, 2011 12:01 pm In our main ensuite we just have one wall in a different tile - similar to Donuts. It is the wall that faces you as you walk into the ensuite and is quite long - around 5m. So the tile (which is the same size as the plainer tile on the other walls) is the only tile on that wall. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: No bathroom feature tiles 6Jan 24, 2011 12:25 pm I decided not to do any feature tiles for our home. I wanted to be able to change the colour and feel of the bathrooms with accessories and not be governed by feature tiles. Although I do love the look of them, and if it was a high priority, I probably might have gone with pebbles or small mosaics. I do like my fairly plain bathrooms, though. Both have tiles to the ceiling. The tiles on the floor are also on one wall, the other three walls are white. My thoughts were the same as a few above...if you have to make it fit...don't do it, it won't be right. We're pleased with ours. Re: No bathroom feature tiles 9Jan 26, 2011 6:45 pm we cant afford tiles, let alone any feature ones! stormy can I ask what your wall and ceiling/ window colours are?? grogeous. Re: No bathroom feature tiles 10Jan 26, 2011 10:17 pm Hi Kiwi, Wall colour: Bristol 'Nomadic ivory' (similar to Dulux Hog bristle and almost identical to Taubmans 'Antique Ivory') It's full strength. Ceiling: white (no tint) skirts/archs: builders white...basically no tint. Window frames: 'Merino' or 'Paperbark'. (A&L windows, colorbond colour.) Hope that helps! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... My reasoning was this - when you walk into someone's bathroom you can tell roughly what year it was built by the feature tiles. Of course, my reasoning is totally flawed - you still end up dating your bathroom by the shape and size of the tiles even if they are plain white! While I know this in my head, my heart still tells me plain white is the most timeless LOL! And the other thing my head says "Who cares if people know when your house was built anyways?" but I still want timeless! Re: No bathroom feature tiles 12Jan 27, 2011 2:59 pm thank you stormy, that is excellent. I like the 'white' contrast, so hope you dont mind...but will copy! (but it will be a resene paint, as that is what our painter uses here) will try and get one similar to the dulux and taubmans ones. looks really smart. cheers kb 46....funny!
