Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 10, 2007 9:05 am Maybe a silly question, but do the drains in a tiled shower base NEED to be centralised right in the middle of the square/rectangluar tiled floor???
Our display has it smack band in the middle of the tiled floor, but i would like to ask if they can be off-set to be located nearer the back wall. The slab is obviously flat and the tilers lay a cement/compound to angle the tiles to drain efficiently i would think, so can they angle it towards the back of the shower???? As long as the plumbing in the slab is in the same spot of course!!!! Has anyone done this, any issues??? Re: SHOWER DRAINS 5Dec 10, 2007 9:40 am Okay so i'm a bit wierd, but i hate standing over a drain......
Happy now!!!!!! Re: SHOWER DRAINS 9Dec 10, 2007 10:41 am Okay you laugh Ash, but we've asked the builder - waiting on a reply.... Re: SHOWER DRAINS 11Dec 10, 2007 11:12 am It will depend on the position of the pipes in the slab. If you get the request in early enough, then I see no reason why they can't do it for you - the tiler will work with his own levels to suit the drain location anyway. Re: SHOWER DRAINS 12Dec 10, 2007 11:18 am Thanks CN, that's why we are asking now.... Site scrape is planned for next Friday. They are not re-commencing until January, so want to get in quick before they say it's too late to change it. I can't be that hard can it??? Re: SHOWER DRAINS 13Dec 10, 2007 12:49 pm _Al_ You never know who or what may be lurking below rofl. I am the same Phoenix ... I just hate standing over drains ... too many Stephen King novels <shudder> . Let us know how you go with the builder and we might try something similar in our showers. Who knows you might be starting a trend!! Re: SHOWER DRAINS 14Dec 10, 2007 1:01 pm See Ash, I'm not the only weirdo on here okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeeElle, we are very similar, our colour tastes, our idiosyncrasies???? Hmmm what else???? I'll let you know what evevntuates. Hmmmm trendsetter hey????? who wants to look down a drain while they are washing their hair ... yuck. Makes perfectly good sense to me. Re: SHOWER DRAINS 17Dec 10, 2007 3:24 pm ILOVEMYNEWHOME We got a shower channel so our drain is at the end of the shower http://www.artplastics.com.au/MizuShowerChannel.asp Thanks for that, i have forwarded this info onto the builder. They have advised that they do not move plumbing????? So i suppose the grate would then be out of the question..... I have also sent them your picture Matt with the covered drain and we'll see if we can get that idea to "float" Re: SHOWER DRAINS 18Dec 10, 2007 11:18 pm It's easily done P - My 70's house has the shower drain offset.
It's all about slope and water flow. I like the side channel designs - but they are perhaps an extra issue to clean in years to come. Steve Re: SHOWER DRAINS 19Dec 10, 2007 11:22 pm Yeah easily done when the builder "wants" to do it though!!!!!
H3nley had said that they DO NOT move plumbing???? So the channel idea is out too. By the way , they had to move the toilet in our ensuite, at our request, so why can't hey move a darn drain hole????? I've sent them the info and we'll see what eventuates. Re: SHOWER DRAINS 20Dec 10, 2007 11:40 pm sounds like they are being difficult. I can't understand why they cant move the plumbing if they haven't even started the house yet What difference could it make to them at this stage? I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9563 Hi All, about to commence a bathroom renovation and need some advice on subfloor works. Current subfloor is hardwood T&G floorboards on 90x45 joists, but intention is to… 0 5834 Ask yourself if the insurance company will be aware of the Reno. 4 7369 |
