Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 14, 2011 10:28 am Hi all, So I know this topic has been covered at length before and, as far as I can tell, a small amount of leaking is normal with these sorts of screens where the water which deflects off the person showering gets out through any gaps where the frame would normally sit. But my problem appears to be a little different. I have a semi-frameless screen with a tiled base in my ensuite and it leaks significantly (enough to drench one of those sham-wow type things (which I have to use as a bath mat) during the course of a normal length shower). I've had a quick look at the screen and the problem appears to be that the door is actually sitting on top of the edge of the base which is convex so any water which runs down the door just ends up running out onto the floor outside the shower Hopefully that explanation makes sense - I can try to get a pic if necessary. Has anyone else had this problem? If so is it something which you can fix yourself or do you have to get the shower screen installer back out? I haven't yet had the 3 month maintenance for my home but I really don't want to wait another 2 months for this annoying issue to be fixed! Both the top and the bottom of the door are attached to Allen Key type fittings but I don't want to do any damage Thanks in advance Re: Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 2Jan 14, 2011 11:10 am I wouldnt touch it myself.... would that void warranty?? I would ring your builder and explain to them whats happening and that it needs to be fixed asap... maybe say something along the lines of risking damage to other things from the water if its not fixed soon (cabinetry etc?) At this point my site supervisor is not even taking my calls (I just leave messages on his message bank!) due to other various issues I have had with my useless builder but I'll try again and see how I go. Re: Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 5Jan 15, 2011 9:01 am Too late to modify the shower screen now and if you've failed contacting your builder or subcontractor you may have to go o another glazier that makes shower screens and see what he/she can attach to the bottom of the frame/glass to prevent the leak Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 6Jan 15, 2011 10:10 am Look in your building contract to see who makes the screens. We had a warranty issue with ours in our last house and at that stage the builder wasn't taking our calls. So I contacted the manufacturer, gave him all details including dates on the certificate of occupancy, builder, sent photos of the damage, and they sent someone out to rectify. It could just be that it hasn't been caulked though (I don't know what your screen looks like so not sure if it needs to be done) Hope this helps. Ultimately, it was most likely someone from the manufacturer installed it so just go straight to them. Re: Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 7Jan 30, 2011 7:08 pm About two weeks ago a guy came to give us a quote on a semi-frameless which we really wanted. He down sold us to a framed shower screen. He said the semi-frameless look great but they leak ALOT!! So we followed his advice and went for the frameless in the end. Sorry, not rubbing it in, but just letting you know that from what this guy told us, they do leak so perhaps it's quite normal for yours to be doing what it's doing Re: Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 8Jan 31, 2011 11:01 pm Quote: He said the semi-frameless look great but they leak ALOT!! I have a semi-frameless screen and it only leaks a tiny bit where the door pivots with the fixed pane. Certainly nowhere near enough to soak a whole cloth, mines is easily contained in the bath mat. Sounds like a design flaw that must be annoying, keep hassling your SS! Semi-frameless shower screen leaking - a lot! 9Feb 02, 2011 10:41 pm I have frameless and had a lot of leaking. Got the shower guy back twice. He put a clear rubber attachment across the bottom of the door which faces inward so the water bounces off and inward plus a rounded metal strip across the floor directly under the door. It stopped the leaking dramatically. 2 3386 Your shower screen has failed in the way it is designed to fail with tempered glass. You could replace it with laminated safety glass but make sure it has AS standards logo on it 1 7648 6 22767 |
