Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 02, 2011 10:48 pm Do you prefer mitred joins or a metal strip where the horizontal and vertical tiles meet? Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 2Jan 02, 2011 10:49 pm I prefer mitred joins around the bath but they require more precision. The metal strip seems to be more forgiving it seems. Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 3Jan 02, 2011 10:59 pm We paid a little more to have mitred joins! I think there is a pic of my spa tiles in my building thread. Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 4Jan 03, 2011 8:15 am We have stainless on our wall corners as well as on the niche. I like the look especially as our tiles are all quite light and neutral - the stainless lifts the area. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 5Jan 03, 2011 7:56 pm I like the look of mitred, and this is what we have in all our bathrooms, but could def see how the s/s strip could tie in nicely to some tiles - think there is more work involved in mitred - (could be wrong...?) - so I guess more cost as a result... Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 7Jan 08, 2011 12:59 pm You have to be careful with mitres on exposed edges like this as they can be quite sharp. They look great done this way but if there are kiddies around and they use the bath a lot then there are other options like bullnosed style aluminium anodised atrip which is much safer. Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 8Jan 08, 2011 2:11 pm We have a mitred bath that the kids use and the edge is OK. The mitre doesn't go all the way to the edge but comes back about 0.5 mm which helps. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 9Jan 08, 2011 10:26 pm mitred for us. paid extra for it. Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 10Jan 11, 2011 3:16 pm I would be worried about mitred joins, as they would probably be more prone to chipping. Steel edge would be much more solid, especially if you have kids around. Why are priates scary ? Because they yaargh.. Re: Bath tile joins. Mitred or stainless steel strip? 11Jan 11, 2011 5:07 pm My choice was a strip because: * A strip is easier to install and get right - will look much better than a poorly done mitre join. * A strip would be less likely to chip. * A rounded strip is a softer edge to have close to a bathtub when children's hands and heads are around. * A strip may look cleaner in 10 years' time than a mitred joint filled with grout. We have a white plastic strip which I think is less noticeable with our white tiles than an aluminium one. Kylie get them to replace the chipped tiles. It will stick out like a sore thumb overwise. Also tiler will be siliconing the miters rather than grouting. Grouted miters crack… 1 4038 Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12921 Brass or 2) Stainless steel made - which Kitchen tap is good for drinking.Brass kitchen taps in Australia contain lead… 0 6736 |
