Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 01, 2011 3:55 pm We are building our first house in Sydney, and it's now in the bricklaying stage. The windows have been mounted on the frames, and we found the design of the window in the bathroom is quite awkward. The final result will be like this. This image is not mine, I found it on the forum, but it's just the same as mine. http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee29/clath_photos/Image095.jpg The bathroom is on up floor, I think there may be a safety concern. My question is, is there a regulation or law about the window height in bathroom? Can I ask my builder to change this for free? For example, change the window to lower half fixed and upper half sliding. Considered the window has been installed, if they are going to change it, it may cost a lot. If the builder is not going to change it, I think may be I can put a security screen on the window. Is it common of this kind of security screen? How much will it cost? Thanks Re: window over bath 2Jan 01, 2011 5:01 pm A glazier told me that there are regulations about using thicker glass within a certain distance of baths - I assume so that if someone slips and falls against the window, they're not going to go straight through it. There may (should?) be regulations regarding the height of openable windows on upper storeys, which is an entirely separate thing, but I don't know. I can find a lot of references to overlooking, but none about safety. Ed might know.... Re: window over bath 3Jan 01, 2011 5:43 pm I know our opening windows on the upper level had to be above 900mm or have security grills, bars etc to meet certification. Thats in qld. The sill can be at floor level. But there is a limit to the amount the window can open when the sill is below 900mm. That limit is 150mm.
