Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 17, 2010 9:13 am The tilers are currently completing the tiling in our wet areas and I am SO surprised/ shocked with how they are looking at the moment. To be completely honest I am actually quite disappointed- Not that it is anyone's fault- It just ISN'T how I imagined it would look. I picked a lovely rich, shiny chocolate floor tile and a creamy/ off white tile for the walls in the shower and above the vanities. I still love the tiles but now they are laid I can't believe how much colour the chocolate floor tiles are throwing off and they are making the off white wall tiles look "yellow". We were deliberately trying to steer away from anything that looked beige- and this is even worse! LOL! At first I thought they must have accidentally ordered the wrong tiles but I checked and they are definitely the right tiles. On their own and even side by side they are true to colour but fixed on the wall the wall tiles look "wrong". Of course I know that this kind of thing can happen but I've never actually witnessed it to this level before. I can't believe how "yellow" an off white tile could look. I agonised over the cabinet colours to ensure they they "worked" with the wall tiles. Once I decided on a colour I even took a while to decide whether I would go for matte or gloss to ensure that it would work perfectly and when you look at the bathrooms at the moment it doesn't even look like I gave it any thought whatsoever (because the cupboards are an off-white and the tiles look yellow) I was just wondering whether anyone else has had a similar reaction when they first saw their tiles laid. If so, did it end up looking different when your bathroom was actually completed or did you just have to grow to like it/ live with it? The grouting hasn't been completed and I am hoping that will make things look different. I am also hoping that when they add the shower screens and mirrors that it will bounce a bit more natural light around the room and make the wall tiles look more 'true to colour' A few reassuring stories would help LOL! Re: Floor tiles throwing lots of colour Have you had this ha 2Dec 19, 2010 9:25 am Wait until it's finished - all sorts of things can change the way a colour looks in a room. If you still hate it, repaint (and get some help choosing the right wall colour). Bathrooms are small, so it's a cheap and quick fix - much easier and cheaper than replacing tiles. Re: Floor tiles throwing lots of colour Have you had this ha 3Dec 19, 2010 12:06 pm Thanks Kek- It is already starting to look different. The grout hadn't been done when I had my whinge and even just with that and the tiles cleaned up it is starting to look much better. When the rooms are painted and shower screen, mirrors, vanity basins are installed I'm sure it will look different. I think we will still have an issue with the floor tiles throwing off a lot more colour than I thought would happen when I first selected the tiles but I'm pretty confident the additions in the room will make it look better. I think I just naively thought I would walk into the room and I would immediately fall in love with the tiles but it was the exact opposite I had an image in my head of how it would all look and what I could see wasn't matching how I planned for it to look. I remain hopeful that when it is all finished it will look a lot more like I had planned. I think in my moment of stress I was just looking for a bit of reassurance and hoping that someone would say...... "Hey the same thing happened to me and I couldn't get over the differennce in colour when they added the shower screens and mirrors it looked much better". In hindsight I probably should have just stayed away until it was all finished.....but I don't think I would have been able resist temptation LOL! Re: Floor tiles throwing lots of colour Have you had this ha 4Dec 19, 2010 12:10 pm You can also experiment with towels and accessories once you move in. You may find the right colour can draw attention away from the tiles, or make it look different so that you are happier. I despised my vanity units when they went it.... in two bathrooms and a powder room. I still think I made a mistake and should have gone for a different laminate (either of the other two I tossed up between would have been better ). But once there are towels and accessories and stuff around.... I still don't love them, but I just don't notice them anymore. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I had major hissy fits about them, because they weren't the same as in the display, and I didn't realise that what was written in our tender wasn't the same thing. But once the tiling and mirrors and painting was all done, I stopped noticing them. And within a few weeks of moving in, I actually started to like them. Now I'm glad we didn't get the ones I thought we were getting. My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW. Under campbelltown council.
