Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 07, 2010 11:36 am My bathroom renovations were started yesterday, it's already doing my head in and its only been 1 day! what was I thinking, renovating soooo close to Christmas?!! anyhoo it's started, bathroom all stripped out, waiting on plumber. My bathroom guy is great and assures me it'll be done by Christmas....time will tell Our home is nearly 50 years old and our old bathroom was cedar walls and ceiling, so when the cedar was taken from the walls, we found some lovely retro 70's wallpaper underneath, I'd love to share the photos I took, but I can't seem to upload them. Also there was an infestation of cockroaches and loads of mouse droppings I was in shock to think that was behind my walls. Is this common?. My bathroom guy said it was because of the dampness, but sheez i've never seen so many roaches, it was disgusting and embarrassing. All has been sprayed now, thank goodness. Just want to add, I have a new found respect for anyone building a new home. We're doing some major renovations here, and I'm really struggling doing that !! p.s. if someone could kindly tell me how I go about uploading photos, that would be great. I've already resized them, but when I go to upload them it tells me the board has reached capacity or something long those lines. Re: My bathroom renovations 2Dec 07, 2010 12:25 pm You need to use a hosting site to post photos. Something like Flickr / Imageshack / Photobucket. Once they have the photos on their site copy the <img> code across into your post and voila the photos will appear. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: My bathroom renovations 3Dec 07, 2010 12:46 pm Yay! thank you Kyton. As you can see, a much needed renovation lol. I'll have to post some progress shots as it gets underway.... The layout and size of the room reminds me of my relative's place. They took out the bath and put in a double vanity right across the full width. It made the room so much bugger. Look forward to your finished result. Re: My bathroom renovations 5Dec 08, 2010 9:33 am Yeah it is. My bathroom guy told me it was cedar cladding, which is very hardy in bathrooms, but so outdated. I also will not be having a bath put back into my new bathroom. We're having another toilet instead and a bigger vanity, but not a double. Shower will also be bigger. Plumbers arrived at 7am on the dot! don't ya just love when ppl turn up when they say? I'm kinda getting a bit more excited now I'm seeing "some" progress. Re: My bathroom renovations 6Dec 15, 2010 6:52 pm Well I believe the tranformation of my bathroom. It's getting there. New ceiling is painted, new floor cemented, awaiting tiling, new walls waterproofed and 1 and a half walls tiled. Shower screen guy is turning up tomorrow to measure and my tiler says he'll finish wall tiles off and start floor on friday. Fingers crossed it'll be done by chrissy. Here are some images, although not real good as there was no lighting in the room. My hubby, who is the sparky, assures me he'll do the electrics over the weekend. Bathrooms are the worst followed my anything other than replacing units in a kitchen. I renovated my first house while I was living in it. Never again. Having three new houses built was easier. Re: My bathroom renovations 11Dec 21, 2010 2:55 pm Hehehe bingoshelly, yeah it was a hard decision, but ya know Well I'm finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. My toilet is set, shower mixer tap in place, door is ordered....i'm having a specially made glass door and new windows are ordered. The vanity is in, but the top is yet to be put in place. Apparently the shower screen is going in tomorrow evening. If all goes to plan, we should be showering in our new bathroom Christmas eve! Oh and hubby still hasn't done the electrics...grrrrr Piscean, the cost of my bathroom renovation, everything new and I mean EVERYTHING! is around the $11,000 mark. I'm not sure if this is too costly, as it's a neighbour that is doing it and he's got a good name, so we just decided to go with him. I haven't had to do a thing. The only thing i've picked were the tiles. Bashworth, this is only the bathroom, we have the rest of the house getting started in January! walls knocked out, kitchen moved, rendering etc...the list goes on. I'm NOT looking forward to it unfortunately But it needs to be done. I guess what really frustrates me, is that my reno guy comes, does a little bit, then goes. I just think he has too much work on to stay on the job. Does anyone else find this? am I being unreasonable? few more updated piccies.... I'd really appreciate if you could give a sort of "timeline" for us telling us when they first arrived at your place to demoslih the bathroom and the day that they finished the renos. From what I can tell it has taken 3 weeks so far, is that right? We are planning a bathroom renovation in about July 2011 and I'm trying to gauge how long we can expect our bathroom to be finished as our bathroom looks very similar to how yours was before the reno. I'd also be interested to find out how long your shower was out of action and what you did for showering during the reno. Thanks for keeping us up to date with your progress! Yes it will be 3 weeks tomorrow. He gave me a time frame of about 2 and a half weeks. He did all the demolishing, with some help from another elderly neighbour, thats like a father to me and my husband took away all the rubbish. Ok as for the showering, how painful is it!!? we've showered everywhere from my MIL's to the sister-in-law's, neighbours, and even my renovation guy has opened his home to us and we've showered there! No long to go now, final fittings go on walls today and shower screen tonight. Roofplum66, it's his b'day too on xmas day and will be having afternoon drinks with us, so will definately be buying him something. Stay tuned for, hopefully, the finished product!! Re: My bathroom renovations 16Dec 31, 2010 12:07 pm Well as promised, we were showering by Christmas Eve! I absolutely love my new bathroom. Now i've seen the end result, I guess i'm kinda looking forward to more renovations.......maybe lol. We've just a few final touches, such as final coat of paint around glass door and window as well as new glass being installed in windows which will happen after new year. Some final pictures to share. Apologies for the amount, I got a little carried away. Have a wonderful new years eve everyone!! Re: My bathroom renovations 18Jan 07, 2011 4:00 pm Hi Rosewood, yeah it definately does. We also have a seperate toilet as well, that isn't tiled to the ceiling, which I now regret. My bathroom is so much more spacious, especially without the bathtub! Re: My bathroom renovations 19Jan 07, 2011 6:26 pm I would love to take the wall down between the toilet & bathroom to give it more space instead of taking the bath out but its a steel frame & has a bulk head running through both rooms so it can't be done. The only thing I can do is remove the bath to make more room. A few years ago I had the bathroom tiles resprayed & a new shower cubicle installed so I want to hold for a couple of years before I rip everything apart. For the mean time I will just re tile the floor & walls as I have already replaced the cistern. Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6046 Hi Geoff Install Puddle Flange prior to any screed.
