Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 22, 2010 8:51 pm Hi, Planning to have a recess/cove in a wall of the shower for shampoo. It will be tiled with 12mm thick tiles and villaboard underneath. Would appreciate feedback on the sizes of these things and wall thicknesses. Builder suggested a 95mm wall instead of 75mm. Not sure if that is thick enough. Ta. Re: Standard dimensions of shower recess/cove for shampoo 2Nov 22, 2010 8:59 pm mine is 300mm high x 600mm wide, thats just the hole itself. I am not sure how wide the wall is? but the depth of the niche I would say is about 10cm? that's a guess though sorry If I had more wall to work with I'd have made it longer, though it does fit everything we want it to fit. but the 300mm height works well for us. Re: Standard dimensions of shower recess/cove for shampoo 3Nov 23, 2010 12:56 am We have to make any wall with a recess double brick (unless using an outside wall which already is double brick). Our builder put in 2x 40cm wide but really tall ones in the main bathroom which i'm not liking at all. I will make them around 30 or so high (depending on the tile height), then probably around 1.2m long (length of 2x tiles), so that way i'll have 2 tiles neatly fit into the recess, requiring less cutting. ensuite 2 will have a 30x60cm as above (one tile). Re: Standard dimensions of shower recess/cove for shampoo 5Nov 23, 2010 10:50 am We only have one in the main ensuite double shower. Around 1.8m in length approx 40cm high and 10cm deep. Have no idea about behind the tiles - can't remember back that far. Some things are worth waiting for. What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 1677 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
