Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Hot water unit: Dux / Rinnai 4Nov 15, 2010 12:09 am vvs mand Youre comparing two different systems. The storage system will continue to heat up the water in the tank when its not being used. As it loses temp. The instantaneous obviously only heats up water as its being used. This results in cheaper running costs. The disadvantage with the Rinnai this, they are very temperamental, in that if installed correctly and the pipework is fitted correctly in regards to size etc, you should be able to use more than one point at a time. If the pipework has been installed poorly, you will get a noticeable pressure drop when a second tap is turned on. Secondly, you will experience a greater delay in getting hot water to a distant tap than with a storage unit. Thirdly, most have an inbuilt tempering valve which gives water at 50 degrees. Expect a further temp loss from more distant fixtures. The 32 signifies liters per minute, and they activate on a minimum use of 8 liters per minute. So water usage restrictors fitted to all new tapware can have a significant affect upon them.. Repair costs on instantaneous units can be quite expensive as compared to storage units, which are much cheaper to repair. In short, instantaneous units are great, IF pipe sizing is correct and runs arent too long and they dont decide to be tempermental.
