Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 01, 2010 7:14 pm I'm looking at renovating my bathroom and would appreciate any advice from folks who've done theirs. The plan is to have everything removed and replaced (except for the bath which will be left out permanently). New design will be simple, neutral, etc. Planning on selling the house within the next 5 years most likely. Does any have any pearls of wisdom regarding paying a company to manage everything versus managing the tradies myself (and perhaps some DIY work)? Also, are there any companies you'd recommend going with (Perth metro)? Some photos of the current bathroom below. The bath never gets used so its covered with a platform. So Imagine it may end up costing you a pretty penny. If I were you I would change the bathroom theme starting from the shower cubicle light colour and transparent glass, change the vanity and paint wall and wall tiles or leave them as they are. Ready to sell. That's it! You never know what the next person may want to do with the bathroom so so long as the bathroom looks neat and in reasonable shape that's what you want. Re: Bathroom reno advice (perth) 3Nov 02, 2010 11:18 am Hi We too are renovating our bathroom next month. Your renovator would have given you 2 quotes - one only for the works and one for the fittings. I'd say that if you go around and shop a bit you could save quite an amount specially on tiles, taps, wastes mirrors etc . We have been shopping for the past 2 weekends and saved enough to upgrade the taps to grohe taps which are supposed to the best in the market according to the salesmen. Happy hunting. Re: Bathroom reno advice (perth) 4Nov 02, 2010 11:44 am We decided to use 2 tradies - Plumber and tiler. Hubby had to removed the bathroom, took him a whole weekend, and he said he would never do it again. the plumber then took 3 weeks to move the bath tap set to another side of the wall and install the fittings for the mixer sets. then the tiler came - did an AMAZING job, said the plumbers work was sloppy and would be asking for a discount, the plumber then took FOREVER to come back and fit the tap on after the tiler had finished. Calling everyone, picking out bathroom products took so much time. My sister went through a reno company, she had a temp bathroom delivered and it was completed in 2 weeks. When she had trouble with a tap, someone came out and replaced it. My tap doesn't work properly, my plumber said I need to call the tap company... and italian one. my sister and I spent the same and hers was just so much easier to handle. Fair enough I had a nightmare of a plumber but still, all the ringing running around and having no bathroom wasn't worth it. GOOD LUCK! I like the idea of painting the tiles. I'll have a look into it. Have you done it yourself grinder? Have you done it yourself grinder? Haven't done it yet but will do it soon. I am in the process of doing it ATM I am toying whether to change the shower cubicle from bronze to white different doors of course. A mob quoted me $650 to replace the cubicle if I will remove the existing one. Bah! Who cares just few rivets and it is gone! Got to wait for my stonemason for the kitchen bechtop composite stone. Keep you posted tomorrow as I have been busy cutting villaboard material and patching up holes today Re: Bathroom reno advice (perth) 8Nov 03, 2010 11:42 pm I think if you changed the sink, painted the cupboards, walls (and maybe change benchtop) & changed shower screens to something more clear/modern looking it would give it a decent makeover. The tiles are neat & are not a horrible bright colour. Re: Bathroom reno advice (perth) 9Nov 28, 2010 9:43 am We have had issues with workmanship with a bathroom renovator. My advice to you is to get a few quotes. Also contact the WA Tilers Association for recommended tilers/renovators. Have you done it yourself grinder? I have had clients that have had tiles painted in their bathroom and I have seen the results . It is at best a temporary fix and will not last long durations.
