Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 26, 2010 6:51 pm I've asked 3 plumbers for quotes, and so far one has come back to me...for the following- 1. Remove existing 2 taps and a faucet on my ensuite vanity and replace with new taps and faucet I'm supplying 2. Remove existing 2 taps and showerhead in my ensuite shower and replace with new taps and showerhead I'm supplying 3. Exactly the same but in the main bathroom, for both vanity and shower. The plumber who's quoted so far has priced it at $400 (incl. GST), but it could go up or down depending if there's any unexpected issues...? Is this normal? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Typical price for changing taps & showerhead / shower ta 2Oct 26, 2010 10:11 pm Never needed a plumber to change taps or shower heads however if hardware is not included it would be pretty expensive since it would not take me more than half an hour to change those things Re: Typical price for changing taps & showerhead / shower ta 3Oct 27, 2010 6:02 am Sometimes you do need help since there could be unexpected issues. For example, our water pipe is too long for the new shower head !! but it's perfect for the one supplied by the builder So we need someone who can shorten it with adequate tools My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Typical price for changing taps & showerhead / shower ta 4Oct 27, 2010 8:50 am I'd also suggest trying it yourself before calling a tradie. If it's the same sort of tap you might even get away with just changing the outside bits and not have to do anything major at all. The biggest problem would be if the pipe was too long or short for your new fitting - if that happens and you don't know anyone half-handy then you can reassemble the old fittings and then call the tradie. $400 would sound about right to me as a plumber would price in the time to do the job, plus travel time (to and from the next city no doubt) and add a bit (make that a lot) for the inconvenience of doing a small joband then add a bit more because they think they can get away with it. I know I'm sounding very cynical but that's been my experience in the past. A friend of mine is a "handyman for hire" for want of a better description. Up here it can be really difficult to get someone to do the small jobs and he has found a niche doing the little jobs no-one else wants to touch. You might want to search around and see if you can find someone like that. I would ring around some of the local holiday unit complexes and see if they can recommend someone. Holiday units would have stacks of those fiddly little fix-it type jobs. Kylie Re: Typical price for changing taps & showerhead / shower ta 5Oct 27, 2010 2:59 pm Cool, I'll do that, thanks! That's a great idea. $400 does sound somewhat pricey for JUST changing taps around...and the showerheads. The taps aren't EXACTLY the same...they're a different shape on top but seem to have the same size & shape of base bit...the showerheads look the same, just one is white and one is chrome (the existing ones are chrome or something similar). I'm still waiting on the other 2 quotes. *tapping foot impatiently* lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
